Do Meeting Stones summon in WoW Forever?

No. Blizzard’s current plan is for Meeting Stones outside dungeons to remain unable to summon party members in WoW: Forever. A stone beside the entrance does not mean two early arrivals can teleport the rest of the group there. Plan to reach the dungeon yourself, or arrange a Warlock summon.

This was announced before the latest podcast. Kotaku’s September developer interview reported that the stones remain outside dungeons without their summoning function. Episode 3 of The WoW: Forever Podcast, released on 8 October 2026, reinforces the decision and explains how it fits the team’s approach to travel.

The 9 October WoW Forever NOW post puts two issues together: no summoning at Meeting Stones, and dungeon maps probably staying absent. Those have different levels of certainty. The developers present the stone policy directly; their wording about maps leaves room for change. Forever is still in beta, so neither should be described as an irreversible promise about every future update.

Why does Blizzard want players to travel?

At about 22:23 in episode 3, the developers describe getting a party together and reaching the entrance as part of the dungeon experience. The longer discussion begins around 51:40. Their argument is that travelling creates opportunities to talk, meet other players and discover things between destinations.

The team also discusses world PvP. Convenient teleport locations concentrate players and fighting around particular portals or stones. Blizzard wants encounters and danger spread through the world, rather than focused only on those gathering points. This is a design goal, not proof that every journey will produce an interesting fight.

A 9 October TechRadar interview reinforces the same reasoning and explicitly mentions preserving the Warlock’s class identity. For players with limited time, the trade-off is real: a late arrival can delay the group. Agreeing on the entrance and departure time becomes part of preparing for the run.

Will WoW Forever have dungeon maps?

Built-in dungeon maps look unlikely under the current design. Around 19:42 in episode 3, the team discusses wanting dungeons to feel like places to explore, with uncertain routes and corners worth investigating. At about 20:11, the developers describe dungeon maps as something they probably will not add.

Keep that qualification. The episode explains the intended experience; it does not announce a permanent ban on maps. A headline saying maps will never exist would go further than the developers did.

This discussion concerns maps of dungeon interiors. It does not mean the world map is being removed. It also does not establish a ban on community-made reference images, written routes or addon maps. Those are separate questions, and this segment does not specify new addon restrictions or guarantee that a particular addon will work in every future build.

Can a Warlock still summon the party?

Warlock summoning remains the class alternative to travelling all the way to the entrance. The podcast raises the class’s summoning role at about 51:40, and Blizzard’s TechRadar interview explicitly argues that universal summoning stones would diminish that role.

Discuss the arrangement before setting out. Ask whether the Warlock can summon, where the group will assemble and who will help with the ritual. Check the current Ritual of Summoning tooltip and available Soul Shards in your beta build. The podcast does not announce a new shard-free spell or a way for one player to replace all the ritual’s requirements.

A Warlock in the party therefore changes your travel options, but is not a reason for everyone else to wait at the starting point without a plan. Our Warlock changes article covers the class’s wider beta updates, including its separate Soul Shard storage.

How should you prepare for a dungeon run?

Choose the dungeon, check its entrance and agree on what the group wants to complete. The LFG playstyle label helps start that conversation; it does not tell you whether everyone has the same quests, knows the route or expects to explore side rooms.

Use a dungeon-specific entrance guide when travelling. The journey can be easier for one faction than the other. Episode 3 uses Hall of Thanes and Ragefire Chasm to explain why the team is comfortable with unequal access routes. An inconvenient entrance should not automatically be read as a rule preventing your faction from entering.

For navigation references, Wowdee’s dungeon guides include illustrated dungeon maps. They are reference artwork, rather than calibrated navigation with a live player-position dot. Check the dungeon and floor before relying on an image. Using a guide is your choice; Blizzard’s preference for exploration does not make a reference image an official in-game map.

  1. Pick the dungeon and confirm its entrance, available quests and your group’s goals.
  2. Ask where each party member is and agree on when to leave.
  3. Arrange any Warlock summon and ritual assistance before relying on it.
  4. Choose a leader or route reference, and say if this is your first visit.
  5. Allow time for travel and unexpected encounters before committing to the run.

What is confirmed, and what could change?

The current stone policy is clear: Meeting Stones do not provide party summons. The dungeon-map position is more tentative: Blizzard’s designers explain why built-in maps probably will not be added. The difference matters when deciding how to prepare and when sharing the news.

The useful question for your next group is practical: how will everyone reach the entrance, and how will you navigate once inside? Treat future promises about automatic teleports, official maps or new addon rules as unconfirmed until Blizzard publishes them. We will update this article when the policy changes or launch documentation settles those questions.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • A final launch statement confirming whether built-in dungeon maps remain absent.
  • Any later changes to Meeting Stone summoning or Ritual of Summoning requirements.
  • Any specific new Blizzard policy affecting community dungeon-map addons.
