Recipe, reagents and skill

Savory Whimsyfin Delight is WoW: Forever's answer to Savory Deviate Delight: a fish dish whose main reward is a costume. ForeverWisp's guide, built on Forever database entries, lists one Whimsyfin and one Mild Spices per craft, producing two dishes, and the crafting entry calls for a Cooking Fire.

The Cooking 85 requirement sits on the recipe item. That is profession skill, not character level, and reaching 85 doesn't teach the dish by itself: you still need to find and learn Recipe: Savory Whimsyfin Delight.

Where the recipe drops

Wowhead reports the recipe dropping from enemies in Redridge Mountains, Great Goretusk among them, according to ForeverWisp. No drop rate has been published, so there is no reliable farming route yet.

If you are questing in Redridge anyway, check your loot before you vendor anything, and keep the recipe even if your Cooking hasn't reached 85.

Where to fish for Whimsyfin

Players commenting on Wowhead report Whimsyfin schools in Redridge, east of Lake Everstill and near Stonewatch Keep. Treat those as places to look rather than a proven circuit: the minimum Fishing skill, how fast schools respawn and whether open water also yields the fish are not established. A player's beta fishing summary on Blizzard's forums lists Whimsyfin as a new fish with new recipes, plural, so this dish may not be its only use.

Because the recipe and the fish both point to Redridge, one visit with a fishing pole and a few Mild Spices can cover the whole dish. Catch a handful first rather than filling your bags for a recipe you haven't found.

Which transformation you get now

Blizzard's October 1 beta notes switched the dish to Orc versions of the Ninja and Pirate outfits that Savory Deviate Delight uses. The earlier Murloc and Ogre looks were placeholders, and Blizzard says it may bring similar ones back in the future.

Screenshots showing a Murloc or Ogre transformation are out of date, so don't farm the dish expecting those forms.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • The recipe's drop rate, and whether it drops anywhere outside Redridge Mountains.
  • The Fishing skill Whimsyfin needs, and whether it can be caught outside schools.
  • How long the transformation lasts, and whether the dish gives anything beyond the outfit.
  • Whether the recipe can be traded or binds when picked up.

Beta notes are dated because Forever is still changing.
