What Cooking builds in WoW: Forever

Cooking stays a secondary profession in WoW: Forever, so you can learn it alongside your two main professions. Learning Cooking also teaches the Basic Campfire Kit, and placing one creates a campsite where other players can rest, repair, and add their own profession's camp object.

Blizzard confirms Forever adds more than 600 new recipes across professions, and adjusted cooked food can now carry a small experience bonus on top of its usual stat buff. The bigger campfire upgrades and other advanced camp objects come from Blueprint recipes dropped by dungeon bosses rather than from a trainer.

Dee cooks over a campfire outside the Goldshire inn while a human and a dwarf eat from bowls, with fish and spices stacked nearby.
The cookfire that started small now feeds a whole camp.

Campfires: the fire that holds 3, 5, or 10 objects

The Basic Campfire Kit needs Simple Wood and a Flint and Tinder. Beta guides show it learned the moment you pick up Cooking, though Blizzard's own panel recap says a profession's first camp object unlocks at skill 20 generally, so the exact gate on this kit was not settled as of 6 October 2026. It burns for about 10 minutes and gives the camp room for three objects, one contributed by each nearby player's profession.

Cooking also builds two campfire upgrades. The Journeyman Campfire needs Cooking 140 to craft once you have learned Blueprint: Journeyman Campfire at Cooking 90, a drop reported from The Deadmines and Wailing Caverns; it raises a camp to five objects. The Expert Campfire needs Cooking 220 and a learned Blueprint: Expert Campfire (Cooking 200), raising the cap to 10. Where the Expert blueprint drops was not confirmed as of 6 October 2026.

Each player can add only one object to a camp, and every object shares a one hour cooldown, so filling a ten object camp takes a group.

How does the Well Fed XP buff work?

Several low skill dishes carry a Well Fed buff that adds 5 percent extra experience from kills on top of a small stat bonus. Brilliant Smallfish (Cooking 1) gives 2 Attack Power, Herb Baked Egg (Cooking 1) gives 1 Stamina, and Spiced Wolf Meat (Cooking 25) gives 1 Agility, each alongside that 5 percent kill bonus.

You need to stay seated and eating for at least 10 seconds to pick up Well Fed, and the buff runs for 15 minutes on these early dishes. The bonus is tied to kill experience specifically, is not confirmed to add anything on quest hand ins, and not every cooked dish on the beta's list carries an XP line yet. Check a dish's own tooltip before planning around it.

Feasts and the Iron Oven

At higher skill, Cooking lays out group feasts instead of single portions. Grand Lobster Banquet and Specklefin Feast each put down food that lasts three minutes and can serve up to 40 players. Anyone who eats becomes Well Fed for 45 minutes with four stats at once, Attack Power, Spell Damage, Healing Power, and Stamina, on current beta numbers.

Separately, Cooking builds its own tier two and tier three camp objects. Cookie's Feast unlocks at Cooking 140 and lays out Stamina-boosting food, while the Iron Oven unlocks at Cooking 300, a workstation some of Cooking's most advanced recipes need nearby.

Leveling Cooking past 150 and 225

Every capital city and starting zone has a Cooking trainer, and Apprentice Cooking has no level requirement, so you can pick it up the moment you log in. One trainer teaches both Apprentice and Journeyman Cooking, which carries you to skill 150.

The Artisan tier beyond 225 is reported to carry over the Classic route through Dirge Quikcleave's Clamlette Surprise quest in Gadgetzan, which needs character level 35 as well as Cooking 225, but that path was still untested on the beta's level cap as of 6 October 2026.

Wowdee will keep a running shopping list of exactly which fish, meat, and spices you still need for your next Cooking tier, so you are not guessing what to buy before a trainer visit.

  1. Reach Cooking 125.
  2. Buy the Expert Cookbook from Wulan in Shadowprey Village, Desolace (Horde) or Shandrina at Mystral Lake, Ashenvale (Alliance).
  3. Learn Expert Cooking and keep cooking up to skill 225.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Where the Expert Campfire blueprint drops.
  • Whether the Basic Campfire Kit needs Cooking 1 or the skill 20 that Blizzard's panel recap sets for a profession's first camp object.
  • Whether Cookie's Feast and the Iron Oven keep their beta skill gates and reagents once Forever launches.
  • Whether the Well Fed XP bonus ever applies to quest hand-ins, or only kill experience.
  • A tested Artisan Cooking (225-300) route once the beta's level cap lifts.
