Where does Heavy Thorium Ore spawn?

Nowhere a guide can point to yet. Zockify's Mining guide, which reads WoW: Forever beta data, calls Heavy Thorium Ore a new endgame ore and says its gathering locations and required Mining skill are not yet known. A map or route that claims otherwise is ahead of the data.

Don't mistake it for ordinary Thorium. The Small and Rich Thorium Veins in Winterspring, Un'Goro Crater, Silithus, the Plaguelands, Burning Steppes and Azshara are Zockify's route for leveling Mining from 245 to 300, not Heavy Thorium spawns.

Hand-inked illustration of a rocky outcrop with green crystals in its grey core and a slab shifted aside, one crystal sample lifted out on a small tray, and a partly unrolled map at its foot beside Dee.
The ore is in the data; where it spawns isn't on any map yet.

What it turns into

Mining trainers teach Smelt Heavy Thorium once you reach Mining 300, turning the ore into Heavy Thorium Bar. Zockify lists that bar in new Alchemy, Blacksmithing and Engineering recipes.

Alchemists can also transmute one Heavy Thorium Bar with one Fel Crystal into a Legionite Bar, which several new endgame Blacksmithing recipes use, so the ore sits at the start of a three-profession chain.

How to get ready now

You can't farm the ore yet, but you can remove the other obstacles.

  1. Take Mining to 300 on the regular Thorium route. Smelting needs 300, and 300 is Mining's current cap.
  2. If you are an Alchemist without Mining, line up a miner. Transmute: Legionite needs Alchemy 275, but the Heavy Thorium Bar it consumes needs a smelter at Mining 300.
  3. Ignore any Heavy Thorium farming route until spawn data is public.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Which zones and nodes produce Heavy Thorium Ore.
  • The Mining skill needed to gather it.
  • Whether it comes from its own vein or as an extra find from existing Thorium veins, and how much each gather yields.
  • The named Alchemy, Blacksmithing and Engineering recipes that use Heavy Thorium Bar, and how many bars each takes.
