What mining changes in WoW: Forever
Mining in WoW: Forever still means swinging a pick at ore veins, but Forever changes what that work earns you. You need a Mining Pick from a Trade Supplies vendor, and the Find Minerals ability marks nearby deposits on your minimap. Ore veins currently take more than one hit to empty, the way they did in Classic Era; Herbalism and Skinning only need one. Players on Blizzard's official forums have debated the extra clicks since a 20 September 2026 thread; several posters argue it fits the developers' stated goal of keeping Classic's slower pace, though no Blizzard reply in that thread confirms the design intent.
The bigger shift is how fast nodes were spawning. A 24 September 2026 player report on r/classicwow described reaching 300 Mining by character level 20, blamed on a lower mob aggro radius and a high node spawn rate. Blizzard's 1 October 2026 beta development notes list a related change: the amount of Poor Copper Vein nodes available in starter areas was reduced. Expect more node-density tuning before launch.

How do you find mining nodes in WoW: Forever?
Each ore type unlocks at a Mining skill threshold, and the beta's zone guides agree on the main route so far.
A Mining trainer also sells Journeyman, Expert, and Artisan training once you hit the right skill and character level, and new Junior Mining Trainers in the original starter zones teach Apprentice Mining on the spot. A quest reward called Mining for Dummies will teach you Mining and grant 2 skill points, up to skill 15, if you have not already picked up two other professions.
- 1 to 65: Copper Veins in the human, dwarf, gnome, night elf, orc, tauren, troll, and undead starting zones, plus Zephras Isle for Skyborne
- 65 to 150: Tin Veins, then Silver and Iron Deposits in zones like Hillsbrad Foothills, Redridge Mountains, and Alterac Mountains
- 150 to 225: Gold Veins and Mithril Deposits in Badlands, Burning Steppes, Tanaris, and The Hinterlands
- 225 to 300: Truesilver Deposits, then Small and Rich Thorium Veins across the Plaguelands, Silithus, Un'Goro Crater, Winterspring, and Azshara
Pyrite, Bauxite, and Pitchblende: the scarce finds
Beyond the ore itself, mining ore veins has a chance to drop three new Scarce materials: Pyrite, Bauxite, and Pitchblende. They work as crafting reagents for new Alchemy, Enchanting, Engineering, Mining, and Tailoring recipes, not as a separate gathering step.
The Legacy perk Bountiful Harvest raises how much Scarce material Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning turn up, so it is worth planning for if you want Pyrite or Pitchblende sooner. You can also stash ore and bars in Mining-specific Waylaid Crates and turn them in for Merchant's Favor currency.
The mining camp buffs: Lodestone and Rock Garden
Mining also crafts three Camp Objects for a nearby Campfire, each one adding a new effect while keeping the one before it. The Lodestone, learned from a trainer at Mining 20, gives you and anyone sitting nearby a flat 90 melee Attack Power buff; it cannot be stacked with Blessing of Might.
At Mining 140, the Rock Garden blueprint keeps everything the Lodestone does and adds a common mining node that spawns near the campsite over time, useful if you are short on a specific low-tier ore. At Mining 300, the Molten Foundry keeps the same buff and doubles as a crafting station for recipes that call for one. Placing the Rock Garden or Molten Foundry over an existing Lodestone replaces it rather than stacking with it, and all three share the one-hour cooldown that applies to every camping feature.
Smelting the new ores into bars
Smelting turns raw ore into bars, and you can use it to level Mining up to skill 185 if you would rather not keep swinging a pick. Forever adds two recipes at the top end: Smelt Azerothium at Mining 275, which needs Pitchblende and Coal, and Smelt Heavy Thorium at Mining 300, which needs the new Heavy Thorium Ore.
Heavy Thorium Bar feeds new endgame Alchemy, Blacksmithing, and Engineering recipes, and Azerothium Bar feeds new Blacksmithing, Enchanting, and Engineering recipes; Alchemists can even combine a Heavy Thorium Bar with a Fel Crystal for a Legionite Bar used in several high-end Blacksmithing patterns. Where Heavy Thorium Ore actually spawns, and at what skill level, is not yet in the beta data.
Wowdee's profession checklist for WoW: Forever will track which camp recipes you have learned, Lodestone, Rock Garden, or Molten Foundry, and which Scarce materials or new bars you still need for the next one, so you always know what to mine for before you log off.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Where Heavy Thorium Ore spawns and the Mining skill it requires
- Whether multiple taps per node stay for launch or get streamlined
- Full drop rates for Pyrite, Bauxite, and Pitchblende
- Whether the Mining skill cap rises above 300 before launch
