Learning Smelt Azerothium

Smelt Azerothium is one of two smelting recipes WoW: Forever adds; the other is Smelt Heavy Thorium at Mining 300. Zockify's Mining guide says Mining trainers teach the new smelts once you meet the skill requirement, which for Azerothium is 275, and it lists no other source.

Finding Pitchblende

Pitchblende is the part to watch, because it isn't one of Classic's ores. Zockify's Mining guide names it as one of three Mining Scarce materials in current beta data, alongside Pyrite and Bauxite, and says Scarce materials turn up as extra drops while you mine ore veins. The Legacy perk Bountiful Harvest increases how many Scarce materials you find. The guide doesn't say which veins give Pitchblende or how often, so keep every piece you get while your skill climbs toward 275.

What Azerothium is for

Zockify lists Azerothium Bar in new Blacksmithing, Enchanting and Engineering recipes. The one named in the data read for this guide is Enchant 2H Weapon – Mighty Healing Power, an Enchanting 300 formula sold for 240 Merchant's Favor. It takes 4 Azerothium Bars alongside 4 Fel Crystal, 6 Greater Eternal Essence, 4 Stranglevine, 4 Nexus Crystal and 4 Torbernite, and Blizzard Watch's beta list puts its effect at up to +100 healing and +34 damage.

That single enchant is a big ask. If each smelt makes one bar, it needs 8 Pitchblende and 4 Coal before you touch the other five reagents. The Blacksmithing and Engineering recipes that use the bar aren't named in the sources read here.

Smelt now, or hold the ore?

If you mine but don't use the bar yourself, there's no rush to smelt. Keep the Pitchblende, and decide once the Blacksmithing and Engineering recipes are public.

If you are an enchanter planning Mighty Healing Power for a healer, line up a miner at 275 early. The bars are only one of six reagents, and Fel Crystal also goes into the Legionite Bar transmute, so both recipes draw on the same reagent.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • How many bars each smelt produces.
  • The Blacksmithing and Engineering recipes that use Azerothium Bar, and how many each takes.
  • Which ore veins yield Pitchblende, and how often it drops.
  • Where Fel Crystal and Torbernite, two of Mighty Healing Power's other reagents, come from.
