Why scarcity drives the best world PvP
Scarce rewards give players a reason to fight in the same place. Around 26:34 a guest argued that the most memorable world PvP comes from competing for something you cannot get anywhere else: a contested world boss, or Classic's Devilsaur Leather, which came from only a handful of spawns in Un'Goro Crater and pulled rival players into one area.
Their wish was for incentives that feel organic: not a separate currency or an artificial ladder, but something valuable enough that players gather in large groups to fight over it. That was a player's wish list. What matters is how the developers answered it.

World bosses and events are ideas, not launch plans
Around 30:12 the developers said they want scarce outdoor objectives with strong rewards, but are still working out how to fit them into the world. Around 30:46 they recalled that Season of Discovery instanced its world bosses so more players could take part, while acknowledging that the contest between rival guilds was lost. Forever has not committed either way.
Around 31:40 they named Season of Discovery events they would love to bring over, such as the Battle for Ashenvale and Stranglethorn's Blood Moon. They also said the Eastern Plaguelands capture towers and the Silithus objective are not enabled for launch, because those designs never produced the PvP they were meant to.
Around 34:11 they described a lighter touch: start from what is fun about the fight itself, then weave in a reward, with the Gurubashi Arena chest as an example. As of 15 October, none of this named a launch event or a date.
What it means for gatherers and crafters
On the PvP ruleset, Blizzard's ruleset guide promises more danger in contested territory, so a valuable spawn there becomes a place to expect rivals. On Normal, you take part in PvP when you choose to. A scarce material is just as scarce there; the fight over it is optional.
Who you meet also depends on your world instance. Around 14:44 the developers said they are still improving how large groups stay together for world PvP, with work continuing after launch. Our layering guide covers the current problems.
- Note any unfamiliar recipe or material, along with the creature and place it came from.
- Expect a spot to draw competition once its source becomes widely known.
- On the PvP ruleset, farm valuable spawns with friends or guildmates who can hold the area.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Where Forever's hidden recipes and new rare materials drop once players reach level 60.
- Whether Forever's world bosses will be contested in the open world or instanced, as they were in Season of Discovery.
- Whether events such as the Battle for Ashenvale or Blood Moon will be adapted for Forever, and when.
