One example, no tooltip

Blizzard picked the Worgenbane Talisman to illustrate a change in how trinkets work, then said nothing else about it. The Deep Dive recap says trinkets are being pushed toward “more varied, situational effects,” with the talisman as the example of how different trinkets can matter in different circumstances. There's no source, effect, cooldown or level requirement attached.

The name is the only hint at its circumstance. Nothing published confirms that it works only against worgen, how the game decides which enemies count, or whether bosses are affected.

The worgen target is read from the name and the closing jaws are artistic; Blizzard hasn't described the effect.

Which fights could justify it

In Classic, most worgen fights happened in Duskwood, Silverpine Forest and Shadowfang Keep, so those are the obvious places to check once the item's tooltip is public. None of them is confirmed as somewhere the talisman helps, and boss immunity is unknown, so don't plan a dungeon trinket swap around it yet.

Making room for a swap-in trinket

Forever's direction means a second, situational trinket is more likely to earn a bag slot than it did in Classic. If the talisman's effect is limited to one enemy type, as its name suggests, the practical rule is to wear it where that enemy dominates the fights and keep your general trinket everywhere else.

If it turns out to have an on-use effect, you won't need an add-on to track it: Blizzard's October 8 development notes say the built-in Cooldown Manager now supports all classes, racial abilities and trinkets.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Where the talisman comes from: quest, dungeon boss, rare creature or world drop.
  • Its exact effect and cooldown, and whether it is passive or on-use.
  • Which enemies count as worgen for the effect, and whether bosses are immune.
  • The level required to equip it.
