What Tailoring does in WoW: Forever

Tailoring turns cloth looted from humanoid enemies into cloth armor, cloaks, shirts, and bags. Mages, Priests, and Warlocks can wear what they craft to fill a slot a quest reward or dungeon drop has not covered yet, and tailors loot extra cloth from humanoid kills, so leveling the skill partly pays for itself.

Many finished pieces, including the reagent bags, bind on equip rather than on pickup, so a character who never touches cloth armor can still buy or trade for them. Any class can wear a Tailoring cloak, since cloaks are not restricted by armor type.

Dee sews at a camp Loom outside Stormwind's gates, cloth bolts and colored dye jars beside a half-finished bag and a planted faction banner.
Tailoring's camp Loom crafts reagent bags without a trip back to town.

What do Tailoring's camp objects do?

Tailoring places three ranked camp objects, each needing a nearby campfire. The first, a Faction Banner, unlocks once Tailoring reaches skill 20 from an NPC or trainer and gives nearby players of your faction a Spirit buff that does not stack with Divine Spirit. Blizzard's own panel recap names this example directly and confirms that a profession's second and third camp objects also need a Blueprint recipe dropped from a specific dungeon boss, not just a skill level. Third-party guides put Tailoring's Spinning Wheel at skill 140, crafting certain reagents at the fire, and its Loom at skill 300 for recipes that need one, both still granting the Spirit buff, but which dungeon bosses drop their Blueprints is not yet confirmed.

The camp buff is weaker than the real spell, same as other profession camp buffs.

Reagent bags from Linen to Mageweave

Forever gives every character an extra bag slot reserved for a reagent bag, separate from your five regular bags, and that slot holds any item tagged Crafting Reagent, not just cloth. Tailoring supplies much of the early progression for that slot on its own: a vendor sells the 6-slot Linen Reagent Bag's pattern at skill 5 for six Bolt of Linen Cloth and six Coarse Thread, an 8-slot Woolen Reagent Bag follows at skill 70 from three Bolt of Woolen Cloth, one Fine Thread, and one Cerulean Dye, a Silk Reagent Bag comes at skill 95 from three Bolt of Silk Cloth, three Cerulean Dye, three Fine Thread, and two Heavy Leather, and a Mageweave Reagent Bag needs skill 190 plus four Bolt of Mageweave, two Heavy Silken Thread, and two dyes.

Buy the Mageweave pattern with Merchant's Favor, not gold. Beta data lists it at 60 Merchant's Favor from a vendor, so budget that currency alongside cloth as you climb toward it.

Notable recipes worth your cloth

Beta recipe data lists 180 Tailoring recipes new to Forever out of 414 total. Most of the new ones are cloth armor in themed sets such as Flarecore, Demonheart, and Manaflare, built from materials like Fiery Core, Lava Core, and Malleable Essence of Nature rather than plain cloth alone. Zockify's database marks 235 recipes overall as having no known source. Check each pattern's source before planning a set, because that total covers old and new recipes together.

Several newer patterns call for Cerulean Dye, Magenta Dye, or Viridian Dye instead of plain cloth. Alchemists craft at least Cerulean and Magenta, so a standing trade with one, or pairing the two skills on one character, is worth arranging before you queue up a run of patterns.

Leveling notes: trainer ranks and a pairing

Tailoring trains in four ranks, each raising your skill cap.

Enchanting is the pairing most guides recommend. The uncommon gear you craft while leveling Tailoring can be disenchanted for dust and essences instead of vendored, which keeps both skills cheaper to raise together.

Wowdee will turn whichever Tailoring recipe you pick into a shopping list: the cloth, thread, and dyes you still need, split from what your bags already hold.

  1. Apprentice needs no requirement and trains up to skill 75.
  2. Journeyman needs 50 skill and character level 10, training up to 150.
  3. Expert needs 125 skill and character level 20, training up to 225.
  4. Artisan needs 200 skill and character level 35, training up to the skill cap of 300.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Blizzard's own Deep Dive Panel Recap names Tailoring's Faction Banner and confirms a profession's second and third camp objects need a Blueprint recipe dropped from a specific dungeon boss, not a skill level alone, but it does not give the Spinning Wheel's or Loom's skill thresholds or name which bosses drop their Blueprints; those specifics come from third-party guides and beta data-mining only.
  • Vendor or drop sources for the new cloth sets (Flarecore, Demonheart, Manaflare, and others) are not yet listed in beta data.
  • Point costs for the Legacy profession-tree perks that touch Tailoring, such as Bartering and Dedicated Study, are still unknown.
