How a camp object becomes a station

Every campsite grows from a Basic Campfire, Cooking's rework of the old Cooking Fire, and it holds three player-placed objects, one per player, on a shared one-hour cooldown. Cooking itself only raises that cap: a Journeyman Campfire fits five objects, an Expert one fits ten. Blizzard confirmed the five-and-ten jump at the 13 September 2026 Deep Dive; beta guides are the source for the two kits' names.

Vendors and repairs are not generic campfire features either. They are Engineering's own tier 1 and tier 2 objects, the Reagent Bot and the Repair Bot, which Icy Veins, mmogah and a wow-professions.com camping guide all describe the same way.

Each profession has three tiers of its own object, and a higher tier keeps every benefit the one below it gave. Place a Blacksmith's Master Forge over a Sharpening Wheel and the Strength buff stays; the forge is just added on top, a detail Icy Veins and a wow-professions.com camping guide both confirm.

Sitting (/sit) or simply crafting next to the fire for about a minute grants that object's buff for an hour, so camping does not force you to stand idle, you just need to stay in range. The Legacy System's Reagent Economy perk already makes a tier 1 object free to craft, and Permanence extends how long a camp's benefits last.

Dee sits by a campfire near a camp alchemy table with potion bottles and a hide stretched on a tanning rack, a walled town across a river at sunset.
An Alchemy Lab and Tanning Rack are among the camp objects recipes can require. Later objects need dungeon Blueprints.

Which camp objects are actual crafting stations?

A profession's third object, unlocked at skill 300, is often the one that doubles as a real workstation. Icy Veins and a wow-professions.com camping guide agree on a list of eight: Alchemy Laboratory (Alchemy), Master Forge (Blacksmithing), Arcane Forge (Enchanting), Anarchist's Workbench (Engineering), Sewing Machine (Leatherworking), Loom (Tailoring), Molten Foundry (Mining), and the Iron Oven (Cooking).

Leatherworking's tier 2 object, the Tanning Rack, already gates some recipes on its own, not just the tier 3 Sewing Machine. A Blizzard forum thread from 3 October 2026 shows a player who learned that the hard way: the Defender's Kilt needs a Tanning Rack, which Leatherworking unlocks at skill 140.

First Aid, Fishing and Herbalism's tier 3 objects stop at buffs and utility, a Plague Doctor's Laboratory, a Fishing Hut and a Seed Hybridizer, with no source describing any of them as a recipe requirement. Guides even disagree on Skinning's Trapper's Workbench, so treat it as unconfirmed.

How to unlock a station

The path is the same for every profession.

  1. Train the profession to skill 20; the tier 1 object comes from your profession trainer, usually after a Camping 101 quest for that profession.
  2. Keep leveling the profession itself; tier 2 and tier 3 objects both need a Blueprint recipe, and Blueprints drop from specific dungeon bosses rather than a trainer.
  3. Craft the object from its own reagents, then place it at a Basic Campfire or better; it stacks automatically with that profession's lower tiers.
  4. Use the station for any recipe that calls for it as soon as you place it. A 1 October 2026 beta fix confirmed crafting no longer interrupts the separate one-minute wait for that camp's hour-long buff.

What's still unconfirmed

Only examples of station-gated recipes are known so far: flasks behind the Alchemy Laboratory, the Defender's Kilt behind the Tanning Rack, and advanced recipes behind the Iron Oven. Some Blueprint boss drops are still unmapped. Guides also disagree on whether Skinning's Trapper's Workbench gates a recipe: Icy Veins and wow-professions.com describe a station for a trap, while mmogah calls it a recipe requirement.

The Wowdee add-on will flag a recipe that needs a station you have not placed yet, and show which skill level and Blueprint unlock it.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • The complete recipe list gated behind each tier 3 station.
  • The Blueprint-to-boss mappings that beta guides have not yet identified.
  • Whether Skinning's Trapper's Workbench gates a recipe; guides disagree.
  • Whether First Aid, Fishing or Herbalism's tier 3 object also gates a recipe.
