Which professions earn Legacy points?
Six crafting professions pay Legacy points in WoW: Forever: Alchemy, Blacksmithing, Enchanting, Engineering, Leatherworking, and Tailoring. Each one pays a point at skill 150, again at 225, and again at 300, for 18 points total in the Tradeskills category of the 65 Legacy Challenges. Blizzard confirmed those numbers in its 23 September 2026 Legacy System post. Forever keeps these six original crafting professions from vanilla WoW and drops the two added later, Jewelcrafting and Inscription, so the math lands on exactly six non-gathering primaries, not eight.
No new regular profession joined that list. Mages get a Research system that behaves like a profession in the professions interface, but Forever guides agree it is a mage-specific system, not a seventh tradeskill with its own Legacy points.
Every character can run only two primary professions, so one character banks at most 6 of the 18 points by leveling two crafts to 300. Those 6 points share a single 16-point spend cap with that character's leveling, PvP, Adventure, and dungeon and raid points, a per-character limit Blizzard sets at launch, not a tradeskills-only rule.

What gathering and secondary professions earn instead
Herbalism, Mining, and Skinning sit outside the Tradeskills category entirely. There is no skill 150, 225, or 300 Challenge for any of them. What they get instead is Bountiful Harvest, a perk in the Professions Legacy tree that improves your odds of finding extra Scarce resources while mining, herbing, or skinning.
Cooking has its own perk, Master Chef, for a chance at extra results from a recipe. Fishing has Luremaster, for a chance to land extra fish. None of the three gathering trades or the two gathered-food skills add to the 18 points, no matter how high you level them.
The same Professions tree also holds Working Overtime, which raises your chance at a skill-up across every tradeskill, including class skills like Lockpicking. Dedicated Study is a daily cooldown that speeds up your tradeskills, or pays free Elemental Essences once everything you have reaches 300. Bartering and Performance Bonus touch vendor prices and the new Merchant's Favor currency instead, perks bought with points you already earned, not a second way to earn the 18.
Why 150, 225, and 300 are the milestones
Those three numbers are not arbitrary. Forever trains each profession through four proficiency ranks. Apprentice starts at character level 5 with no skill requirement. Journeyman opens at level 10 and 50 skill and raises your training cap to 150, Expert opens at level 20 and 125 skill and raises the cap to 225, and Artisan opens at level 35 and 200 skill and raises the cap to 300, the profession's hard ceiling.
Each Legacy Challenge milestone lands exactly where a rank tops out. Reaching 150 skill means you topped out Journeyman, 225 means Expert, and 300 means Artisan, the end of the line for that craft.
How to split professions between a main and alts
Two crafting professions taken to 300 on one character cover the tradeskill share of a main-only plan: 6 of the 18 points, inside that character's own spend cap. If you want all 18 on your account, the other four crafting professions need a home on an alt, two per character, since no single character holds more than two primary professions. That is three characters minimum to cover all six crafts, four if you also want a dedicated gatherer running Herbalism, Mining, or Skinning.
Unlearning a primary profession wipes its progress. If you swap out a craft at 300 to try another, you start that profession over from 1 the next time you pick it back up. Decide early which two crafting professions your main will carry to 300, and let alts pick up the rest instead of experimenting on a character that already banked its points.
Wowdee's profession planning will check which of the six crafting professions already sit on one of your characters and point to the one alt that would close the gap fastest if you want every tradeskill point banked across your account.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Whether unlearning a crafting profession that already banked its 150, 225, or 300 point keeps that Legacy point or claws it back.
- The two Professions Legacy tree perks still unnamed in beta guides, alongside the seven Blizzard has confirmed.
- Whether a future content update adds a seventh non-gathering primary to the 18-point Tradeskills category.
