Honor and Rank Points do different jobs

WoW: Forever separates the currency you spend from the progress that unlocks rewards. Honor comes from defeating other players, battlegrounds and relevant PvP quests. You spend it on equipment and other purchases. Rank Points come from battlegrounds and relevant quests and advance your PvP rank. Saving a large Honor balance is not the same thing as reaching the next rank.

Blizzard’s 7 October 2026 preview says battleground Honor gains have been rebalanced so Alterac Valley is not the only efficient choice. During battleground holidays, the featured battleground offers increased Honor and Rank Points. Check which battleground is featured before planning a long session.

How PvP ranks unlock rewards

The familiar rank ladder returns, ending at High Warlord for the Horde and Grand Marshal for the Alliance. Blizzard says ranks have a weekly cap, but the preview does not give a numerical cap or enough detail to calculate how many weeks a particular player needs to reach rank 14.

Early rewards include a PvP trinket at rank 2, cloaks at rank 3, a necklace at rank 4 and combat potions at rank 5. Rank 7 opens the battle standard. Mounts become available at rank 11, and rank 14 opens epic weapons. Unlocking a purchase is separate from having enough Honor to buy it.

Open the Character pane, normally with C, and select the PvP tab on the right. Blizzard’s preview shows your rank, Rank Points and available rewards there. Use those requirements to choose your next target.

Blue gear, Emboldened Seals and epic upgrades

Honor buys the blue and epic PvP sets. For an epic upgrade, the preview describes combining the corresponding blue item with an Emboldened Seal purchased with Honor. Seals are gated by rank, so both progression and currency matter. Keep the blue piece you intend to upgrade.

The published rank table opens epic bracer and belt upgrade tokens at rank 8, boots at rank 9 and gloves at rank 10. Legs and shoulders follow at rank 12; chest and helm upgrades open at rank 13. Epic weapons appear separately at rank 14. The preview does not publish a complete item-by-item Honor price list.

Sets have also been reworked for different specializations. Blizzard gives Shaman healing, melee and caster gear as examples. Check the stats and specialization on the piece before buying; the right rank alone does not tell you which set suits your build.

Seasonal tasks and Legacy Points

PvP seasons add weekly tasks that award Honor and Rank Points. Three tasks in each season also award a Legacy Point apiece. Blizzard says the tasks connected to Legacy Points remain available in future seasons, so those particular challenges do not disappear just because their original season ends.

That persistence applies to the Legacy-linked tasks. The announcement does not settle every question about rank decay, resets or future season rewards. Avoid building your plan around rules carried over from another version of Classic.

  1. Check your current rank and next reward in the Character pane’s PvP tab.
  2. Pick the gear slot and specialization you want, then keep its blue base item.
  3. Use the featured battleground and relevant PvP quests to work on Honor and Rank Points.
  4. Check the required rank, seal and current vendor price before spending your saved Honor.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • The numerical weekly rank cap and full rank advancement thresholds.
  • A complete current Honor price list for gear and Emboldened Seals.
  • The precise rules for rank decay or resets between PvP seasons.
