What Blizzard confirmed about the new legendary

On 12 September 2026, Blizzard's What's Next panel paired Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps with new tier sets and "a legendary reward we're looking forward to revealing in full." That sentence is the entire announcement. No name, item type, slot, class restriction or acquisition method came with it.

The Barrow Deeps is a 10-player raid built for max level characters. Hyjal Summit brings 20-player encounters to Mount Hyjal, the site of Archimonde's defeat in the Third War. Both raids, plus the returning 40-player Onyxia's Lair, unlock 9 December 2026, five weeks after the 4 November launch.

Blizzard has teased a new legendary reward, but has not named it. Thunderfury already has an entry in Forever's item database; that record does not identify the teased reward or its acquisition method.

Dee stands at the base of Mount Hyjal beside a closed stone altar, Nordrassil's trunk and two barrow cave mouths in the scarred hills behind.
The altar is closed. Blizzard has only given it a season, not a name.

When does the new legendary arrive?

Blizzard's own 2026-2027 roadmap, shown at the same panel, lists a "New Legendary questline" under its Spring 2027 update, alongside two more raids, two dungeons, a new zone and a PvP season refresh. That puts the legendary's questline months after the December raid launch, not inside it.

Blizzard has not announced an exact date within that window. Blizzard Watch estimates early March 2027 by applying WoW Classic's usual 10 to 12 week patch cadence, but that is a guess from past patterns, not a Blizzard commitment.

Blizzard also has not said whether the Spring 2027 questline is the same reward teased alongside Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps, or a second legendary layered on top of it. Treat the two mentions as connected until Blizzard confirms or separates them.

What beta dataminers think they found

Icy Veins reported possible clues on 24 September 2026: beta records mentioning Moonglade, an Un'Goro pylon puzzle, an Elune ritual, and an item called the "Bough of the World Tree," with six ritual vessels and possible links between Stormwraith and the Hyjal Summit boss Sylvestris Dusksong. Other records describe solo encounters and a one-player map called Archimonde's Fall. These are speculative connections, not confirmed quest steps.

None of this is official. The legendary item's name is hidden and its stats are encrypted, and Blizzard has not confirmed the dataminers' connections. Some players read the clues as a healer-focused reward, but that reading comes from partial data, not a published class list. Treat it as a beta find, not a fact.

What to do until Blizzard reveals it

There is nothing to farm yet. No reagent, boss, or quest step is confirmed, so buying materials or rerolling a class off the current rumors risks wasted gold and time.

The practical move is to level a raid-ready character before Spring 2027 and clear Hyjal Summit and the Barrow Deeps once they open, since Blizzard tends to build each update on the tier before it. Treat the datamined locations and encounters as leads rather than a confirmed farming route.

Wowdee will let you add the new legendary to a watchlist now, so the add-on flags it the moment Blizzard names the item, sets its slot, or opens its questline.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • The legendary's name, item type and slot.
  • Which classes or specs will be able to use it.
  • Whether the Spring 2027 questline and the reward teased alongside the December raids are the same legendary.
  • The confirmed quest steps, bosses or crafting materials involved.
