Honor and Rank Points are separate tracks

PvP progression in Forever has two parts. Honor is a currency you earn by defeating players, completing battlegrounds and finishing PvP quests, and it buys the blue and epic PvP sets. Rank Points come from battlegrounds and PvP quests, carry you through the ranks toward High Warlord or Grand Marshal, and have a weekly cap.

Blizzard describes For Great Honor as increasing Honor gains from PvP. Nothing it has published says the perk touches Rank Points. It shortens the Honor side of gearing; it isn't evidence of a faster climb in rank.

That matters because rank gates your gear. Epic pieces need the blue piece plus an Emboldened Seal, and those seals have rank requirements. When rank is what's holding back the next item, more Honor helps less. The forum view that a full For Great Honor is mandatory while ranking blurs the two tracks together.

Honor and utility draw on one budget; Rank Points aren't in the pouch because no perk is known to touch them.

Perks that matter beyond the Honor bar

High Alert raises stealth detection outside battlegrounds, so it's a world-PvP perk. On the Normal ruleset, player combat needs mutual consent; on the PvP ruleset, contested territory is where High Alert earns its place.

Diplomat increases reputation gains, and reaching Exalted with each of the four battleground reputations is its own Legacy Challenge. Blizzard doesn't list exclusions for Diplomat, but it doesn't confirm battleground reputations specifically either.

Field Medicine is excluded in battlegrounds. Reinforce and The Quick and the Dead deal with death and recovery, and Blizzard doesn't say how they behave inside battlegrounds, so count them as open-world value until that's clear.

Choosing by how you play PvP

Blizzard hasn't published rank counts or gates, so treat these as priorities to check against your client, not a fixed allocation.

  1. Battleground gearing: For Great Honor is the clearest fit while Honor is the bottleneck.
  2. World PvP on the PvP ruleset: High Alert, plus recovery perks for the deaths that come with it.
  3. Legacy goals: Diplomat, if your plan includes the four Exalted battleground challenges and the perk proves to apply to them.
  4. Rank-limited: once rank requirements, not Honor, decide your next purchase, move points back toward utility.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • For Great Honor's per-rank value, and whether it applies to Honor from quests and holiday battlegrounds as well as kills.
  • Whether Diplomat applies to the four battleground reputations.
  • Whether any Legacy perk affects Rank Points.
