Where the Drowned City is

The Drowned City lies off the coast of Stranglethorn Vale, west of Grom'gol. Blizzard's 20 October 2026 dungeon overview settles a location some guides had placed in the new Riverglades zone instead. It is a five-player dungeon for levels 35 to 40, the range Blizzard first published on 15 September.

The way in is underwater. Blizzard's instruction is simply to dive below the water to find the entrance. It has not said how deep the door is, so it is worth having a way to stay under longer, such as a Warlock's Unending Breath, a Shaman's Water Breathing or an Elixir of Water Breathing, until players have seen it.

The landmark Blizzard gives is Grom'gol, the Horde base camp on Stranglethorn's west coast.

Dee walks along a broken causeway of troll ruins at sea, under a sky that turns from pale mist on the left through rain to dark storm clouds and lightning on the right, with a pirate ship's wreck beside the ruins.
The Drowned City is open to the sky, so the weather moves with you: mist at the start, a storm at the end.

What is inside

Ancient troll ruins that were lost beneath the waves have risen from the ocean, and their newly exposed streets are open to explore. Trolls and naga now roam the city, and a pirate ship nearby appears to have met a very unfortunate end.

The dungeon is open-air, and it changes as you go. Blizzard says mist and rain build into a full storm before the final confrontation, so the last part of the run is fought under it.

Where it fits on the way to 60

At 35 to 40 the Drowned City is the first new dungeon after the City of Dalaran (28 to 33) and the last before Krol'dok Stronghold (40 to 45) in Riverglades. Stranglethorn's own quests cover the same levels, so a character working through the zone can fit runs in without a long trip.

It was not open in the beta when this was written. No beta note through 15 October opens it for testing, so its bosses, quests and loot are still unseen.

Wowdee's dungeon guide will add the Drowned City's quests and boss order as soon as they can be checked, with a reminder of which quests to pick up in Stranglethorn before you dive.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Boss names, boss count and the order they come in.
  • The quests tied to the dungeon and where they start.
  • Loot, and how deep the underwater entrance is.
