How do camping upgrades work in WoW: Forever?
A Basic Campfire turns a clearing in the wild into a campsite. Nearby players can rest, buy from vendors, repair gear, use profession workspaces, and pick up one-hour buffs. Blizzard's own wording for how long you wait is just 'a few moments'; testing by Icy Veins puts it at about one minute.
On 24 September 2026, a beta build let you cast, craft, and buff other players while you wait for the Campfire buff, instead of standing up and losing progress. You can earn the buff while sitting, sitting in a chair, sleeping, lying down, or using the kneeling emote.
On 1 October, Blizzard stopped campfires from damaging players below level 5, and reduced the damage to players under 90 percent health. Choose your spot with some care: the deep dive panel says parts of Azeroth suit a rest better than others, without naming which.

Three objects, one each, no stacking
A Basic Campfire holds up to three crafted objects, and each nearby player can add one. Those objects share a one-hour cooldown, the same length as the buffs they grant. The first object from any profession unlocks at skill level 20, from a camping NPC or a trainer.
Blizzard names three examples: a Blacksmith's Sharpening Wheel, a Tailor's Faction Banner that raises Spirit, and an Herbalist's Incense Candle that raises Intellect. Blizzard's own recap calls the Sharpening Wheel an Attack Power buff, but the current beta tooltip shows Strength instead. None of these three effects stacks with its matching class buff, so a camp fills a group's missing role rather than stacking on top of a full one.
Alchemists and Leatherworkers get workspace objects instead of a buff: an Alchemy Lab and a Tanning Rack, the Tanning Rack unlocking tougher Leatherworking recipes. Blizzard's recap does not say at what skill level either one unlocks.
A camping guide (Icy Veins) has also catalogued objects for the rest of the professions, including Engineering's Reagent Bot and Mining's Lodestone, though Blizzard itself has not confirmed that full list. The stronger, second and third tier objects come from Blueprint recipes that drop off specific dungeon bosses, and Blizzard has not named which bosses.
Cooking's upgrade: five objects, then ten
Cooking is the profession that grows the fire itself. Cooks can learn upgraded campfires that hold five objects, then ten, instead of the Basic Campfire's three. That capacity is what starts to matter once your group has more than three professions worth of objects to offer.
A bigger fire only pays off when more players show up to fill it: each player can add just one object, so a ten-object fire needs ten contributors where a Basic Campfire needs three. That makes the upgrade as much about group size and profession variety as about raw power.
Legacy perks that shrink the wait
Three Legacy perks touch camping. Field Guide, in the Adventure Legacy tree, reduces the one-hour cooldown on placing camping features; Blizzard has not printed the percentage. Permanence extends how long party, raid, and camping buffs last. Reagent Economy removes the material cost from tier 1 camping features entirely.
Wowdee will keep a checklist of which camping objects each of your characters can place, by profession and skill level, so your group knows what the fire can hold before anyone sits down.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Blizzard's exact timer for the campfire buff; beta testers estimate about a minute.
- How far apart two camps can be, and what happens to a camp on logout.
- Which dungeon bosses drop which Blueprint recipes.
- Blizzard's own confirmation of the full object list beyond Blacksmithing, Tailoring, Herbalism, Alchemy, Leatherworking, and Cooking.
- Whether the Sharpening Wheel raises Attack Power (Blizzard's wording) or Strength (the beta tooltip).
