Turn transmog on or off

WoW: Forever treats transmog as something you opt into. Every character starts with it switched off, and choosing Classic Mode at character creation keeps it off automatically. Off means you see other players in whatever gear they actually have equipped, not a transmogged look. Appearances still get collected while the system is off, so nothing is wasted if you decide to turn it on later.

Hiding a single slot still works even with transmog off. You can hide a helm or a cloak on its own, and anyone else playing with transmog off will still see that hidden slot, the same as it has always worked.

The mirror shows the gear you actually have equipped. The fancier look stays on the hook until you turn transmog on.

Where is the transmog NPC in WoW Forever?

There are two Transmogrifiers so far: Fyrenz Vishonar in Stormwind's Mage Quarter, behind the mage tower near 48, 84, and Mon'ye in Orgrimmar's Cleft of Shadow, on the upper level by the barbershop near 46, 54. Either one opens the same menu for your faction.

Changing a piece's look costs a small amount of money, player reports put it around 95 copper for one slot. The look is tied to the gear slot, not the specific item, so re-equipping a new chest piece of the same type keeps the appearance you set without paying again.

  1. Walk to Fyrenz Vishonar in Stormwind's Mage Quarter, or Mon'ye in Orgrimmar's Cleft of Shadow.
  2. Open the dialogue and choose to change an appearance, manage outfits, or turn the whole system off.
  3. Confirm the choice. Changing a look costs a small amount of money.

Who gets the appearance from dungeon and raid loot

A bind-on-pickup Uncommon or Rare that drops in a dungeon grants its appearance to every eligible looter the moment it is looted, not just whoever wins the roll. Epic raid drops work differently, only the player the item binds to learns the appearance. Poor and Common items grant their look as soon as you loot them, no binding required.

Appearances follow item type: plate transmogs to plate, cloth to cloth, and so on. A level restriction also applies, you cannot wear a high-level look on a low-level character until level 60 removes that restriction for anything already in your collection. Cosmetic-only items are the one exception to the level lock, and Blizzard says those will stay rare in Forever.

On 1 October 2026, a WoW Forever beta update changed how Bind-on-Equip gear interacts with transmog: selling a BoE piece to a vendor before you have collected its appearance now soulbinds the item instead of making it Bind to Account. Equip the piece, or trade it to someone who still needs it, before you sell it off.

Outfits and Situations

Every character starts with two free outfit slots to save a full look, with more purchasable from the Transmogrifier as your gold allows. A Situations tab lets you set an outfit to swap in automatically by location, movement (on foot, swimming, or mounted), specialization, weather, or time of day, so a look you like for city strolls does not have to follow you into a raid.

Collecting a transmog set means tracking which drop you still need, by look, not by stats. The Wowdee add-on + app will let you wishlist a dungeon or raid piece as the appearance you are after, kept separate from the same piece wanted as gear, so you know on sight whether a drop is worth rolling on.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Whether weapon-type transmog can cross categories, such as a mace onto a sword appearance; one player report says yes if your class can use the target type, but Blizzard has not confirmed it.
  • The full outfit slot gold cost scale past the first few tiers.
  • Whether more Transmogrifier NPCs reach other capital cities; players have asked for this in beta feedback.
