Where do you pick up Ruins of Lordaeron quests?

Ruins of Lordaeron sits in the open, non-instanced ground right above the Undercity entrance in Tirisfal Glades. It is not a sealed instance; other groups can be running it at the same time you are. Blizzard's official level range for the dungeon is 15 to 20; beta guides commonly recommend starting at level 15.

Horde and Alliance do not pick up quests the same way here. Horde has four quests waiting outside the dungeon before you even zone in, plus two more that start once you are inside. Alliance has no outside pickups at all. All four Alliance quests start only after you walk through the gate.

That split matters for travel. Undercity is a few steps from the entrance, so Horde players can grab quests, run the dungeon, and turn in without leaving the area. Alliance players have already made a longer trip to get here, sailing from Stormwind through Auberdine and Menethil Harbor to Southshore, then overland through Silverpine Forest into Tirisfal (or taking the Dalaran portal shortcut if playing Skyborne), and three of their four quests then send them back to Stormwind to finish.

Horde quests for Ruins of Lordaeron

Four Horde quests are available before you queue. The Wrath of Rath'mael (level 15) comes from Deathguard Kristof at the camp southeast of Brill; kill Rath'mael inside and return for a choice between the Forsaken Greataxe and the Gnarled Necromancer's Staff. A Frightened Request (level 15) comes from Tabitha Heartweaver at the Sepulcher in Silverpine Forest; find her husband Edward's corpse in the dungeon's graveyard area, near Rath'mael, and report back for Edward's Knife or Tabitha's Cuffs. Light's Justice (level 15) comes from Morbin Lightbane in Undercity's Royal Quarter; collect 25 Intact Limbs from enemies in the dungeon, then return for The Stitcher or Spare Part Bindings. The New Plague (level 16) comes from Theodore Griffs in the Apothecarium; kill Witherfang, loot the Highly Toxic Strain, and come back for Plaguefang or Blight Gloves.

Two more only start once you are inside. Unending Torment (level 16) begins when you loot the Abominable Head off The Baron's corpse, opening a five-step chain that plays out back in Undercity. Crest of Lordaeron (level 16) starts when you find the physical crest, which spawns at one of several fixed points around the dungeon, including a tower near the spider area, a crypt behind a door near The Baron's boss area, and towers along Bjork's patrol route. Ruins of Lordaeron quests for Alliance

Alliance gets four quests, and every one of them starts inside the dungeon. Abominable Creatures (level 16) is the easy one: pick it up from Captain Truman just inside the entrance, loot the Head of the Baron off The Baron, and hand it straight back to Truman without leaving. Bloodied Insignia (level 16) asks for 10 insignias looted from undead enemies inside, turned in to General Marcus Jonathan in Stormwind's Trade District. Remember That I Love You (level 15) starts with a Blood-Stained Letter found beside Edward Heartweaver's corpse in the graveyard, carried to Orphan Matron Nightingale at the Stormwind orphanage in Cathedral Square. Crest of Lordaeron (level 16) is the same roaming crest Horde hunts for, but you turn it in to Lady Dena Kennedy in the Royal Gallery of Stormwind Keep instead of Oran Snakewrithe.

Three of those four turn-ins mean a trip back to Stormwind. Pick up or loot everything you can before you leave the dungeon, and save the hand-ins for a Stormwind visit if you are not heading straight back.

The Unending Torment quest chain

This is the one quest with real length here, and it is Horde-only. The parallel Alliance quest, Abominable Creatures, finishes in a single hand-in instead.

  1. Loot Abominable Head from The Baron's corpse inside the dungeon and use it to start the chain.
  2. Deliver Abominable Head to Master Apothecary Faranell in the Apothecarium, Undercity.
  3. Carry the Head of the Baron that Faranell hands you to Othmar's body in the next room, then report back and choose Slain Baron's Signet, Grave Shroud, or Monstrous Cleaver.
  4. Gather three items around Undercity for Faranell: Toxic Skullcap from Tawny Grisette, Blisterweed from the herb container behind Katrina Alliestar, and Essence of Agony from Ezekiel Graves.
  5. Take the Hissing Serum Faranell gives you to the large worm above Othmar's body, use it there, then return to Faranell to finish the chain.

What changed in the most recent beta build

Blizzard's 1 October 2026 beta notes touched this dungeon twice: A Frightened Request now sorts correctly under the dungeon in the quest log, and a bug that let players loot multiple copies of the Bloodied Insignia quest item is fixed. The same build cut bonus experience from dungeon quests across the board by 50 percent, so expect smaller level gains from this list than earlier beta reports suggested.

Keeping six Horde threads and four Alliance ones straight, across three different locations, is easy to fumble mid-run. The Wowdee add-on and app will turn this into a single per-character checklist: which Ruins of Lordaeron quests you still need, where each one starts, and where its reward is waiting once you are out.
