Where the new quests are

On 13 October 2026, Haunted (@Hauwnted_ on X) posted a quest count for Forever's level 1–30 zones, sorting each zone's quests into three groups: same as Classic, tweaked, and new. By that tally, Elwynn Forest has the most new quests, 25 of 74, with Wetlands close behind at 24 of 58. Mulgore (20 of 52) and Tirisfal Glades (18 of 56) round out the top four.

Below them the numbers drop in steps: Dun Morogh and Durotar at 16, The Barrens at 15, Westfall at 13 and Teldrassil at 12. Nine of the 18 zones show single digits, and five of them, Ashenvale, Thousand Needles, Duskwood, Stonetalon Mountains and Hillsbrad Foothills, show four or fewer.

Three paper rolls on a wooden desk, drawn to one scale and labelled Elwynn Forest 25 new of 74, Wetlands 24 new of 58, and The Barrens 15 new of 105. Each roll ends in a green section for new quests. A legend shows green for new and plain paper for other counted quests. A brass press rests beside the desk and Dee stands reading.

All 18 zones in Haunted's tally

The table gives the new and total figures exactly as labelled on Haunted's chart, in the chart's order. The share column is our own arithmetic, rounded to the nearest whole percent. The chart also marks tweaked quests but doesn't print a number for them, so we haven't estimated one.

Big zones aren't necessarily new zones

Here a big zone means a long quest list, not a large map area, and a long list doesn't mean a lot of new content. The Barrens has the longest list in the tally at 105 quests, yet only 15 are marked new, about 14 percent by our calculation. Duskwood lists 76 quests with 3 new, roughly 4 percent. At the other end, new quests make up about 41 percent of Wetlands' count and about 38 percent in both Mulgore and Westfall, where 13 of a compact 34-quest list are new.

A short new column doesn't mean a zone plays exactly as it did in Classic. Tweaked quests sit outside that column, and some changes aren't quests at all. Blizzard's beta notes record faster respawns for many creatures and objects in Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Duskwood and Thousand Needles, earlier adjustments in Redridge Mountains and Stonetalon Mountains, and higher quest and creature levels around Shadowvale and Bandarion Keep in Tirisfal Glades.

How the count was made, and why that matters

Haunted says they counted the quests in Forever's level 1–30 zones and shared the result as a single chart. The post and chart don't provide a quest-ID list, a game build number, or counting rules for class, race or faction quests, repeatable quests, or how breadcrumbs and chains were counted. We read the original post and the chart at its original resolution, but we haven't checked the figures against a quest database.

Those rules can move the numbers. Counting a five-step chain once or five times, or including or excluding class quests, could change a zone's total, so a one-quest gap like Elwynn's 25 against Wetlands' 24 is closer to a tie than a ranking. Large gaps, such as The Barrens against Wetlands, tell you more.

A zone's total is also Haunted's count of the quests they assigned to that zone, not an independently checked definition of the zone or a list of what one character can pick up. The chart doesn't say how many are limited by faction, class or race, or which specific quests make up each new figure.

Blizzard's 1,000-plus is a different measure

Blizzard's 12 September panel recap promises more than a thousand new quests woven through the level 1–60 journey. That figure covers the whole world. The recap singles out more than 150 new quests in the Riverglades across much of the mid-30s to mid-40s, plus a new level 1–12 starting experience on Zephras Isle. Neither appears in Haunted's chart, which covers only the 18 zones listed above.

Adding up the chart's new column gives 202, by our arithmetic. That isn't a shortfall against Blizzard's number, and it isn't an official count for these zones. It's one player's tally of part of the world, using rules we can't see. Blizzard's roadmap also lists more quests across levels 1–60 in updates after launch.

Using the tally on your next character

If you levelled through these zones years ago, the numbers are a good reason to take your first pass slowly instead of following a route from memory.

  1. Stop at the familiar quest hubs in Elwynn Forest, Wetlands, Mulgore, Tirisfal Glades and Westfall instead of skipping ahead. The tally puts the most new quests, or the largest share of new ones, in those zones.
  2. Choose zones by your level, the quest rewards and the travel involved, not raw quest counts. The tally doesn't measure experience, travel or how long a quest takes.
  3. Don't write off zones with small new numbers. Tweaked quests and respawn changes don't show up in that column.
  4. Treat any count as a snapshot. Blizzard's beta notes show quest objectives, respawn rates and dungeon quest experience changing from build to build.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Which specific quests make up each zone's new count. A published quest list from Haunted or a matching database would let us name them.
  • How the tally handles faction, class and race quests, repeatables and quest chains, which would show how far the zone totals can be compared.
  • Exact tweaked-quest figures per zone, if Haunted publishes them.
