When you get your first mount in WoW: Forever
Blizzard has not published an exact level requirement for WoW: Forever's first mount. The beta's level cap was raised to 30 on 1 October 2026, still below the level 40 where Classic's first mount unlocks, so the question has not been directly testable in beta yet.
On the official beta forums, players debated asking for a slow, cheap mount as early as level 20. The thread settled on the long-running expectation instead. "40 will come. We will get mounts. 60 will come, and we will get fast mounts," one poster wrote, pointing at the two-tier riding ladder Classic players already know. That is a forum reading of the system, not a number Blizzard has confirmed for Forever itself.
What Blizzard has confirmed, during the BlizzCon Deep Dive panel on 13 September 2026, is the shape of the system. Forever "is also adopting the Burning Crusade-style mount-cost approach, shifting the up-front mount cost into training and granting a mount when players learn the riding skill." During the What's Next panel the same week, the team also confirmed Forever has no flying mounts and no level scaling, so every mount here is a ground mount.

How WoW Forever's riding skill cost works
In an interview with Sportskeeda published 15 September 2026, Principal Game Designer Kris Zierhut laid out the new pricing directly. "The new system for mounts is that when you buy the training, the training is the full first 100 or 1,000 gold depending on which level. And then you get your first mount for free after paying for the training." Blizzard has not yet said which levels the 100-gold and 1,000-gold tiers apply to.
That flips the Classic math. In Classic, players paid separately for the riding skill and then again for the mount itself, so the mount was part of the bill. In Forever, the skill purchase is almost the whole bill, and the mount is thrown in.
Zierhut also addressed the pre-purchase mount bundles directly. Buying a cosmetic mount from a Battle.net pack does not skip the gold. "They still need to buy their training. You still got to pay the 1,000 gold," he said, making clear the bundles only change what the mount looks like, not what it costs to ride.
What your first mount costs in WoW Forever
Budget around 100 gold for your first riding tier and the ground mount that comes with it. A second, faster tier costs roughly 1,000 gold, again bundled with its own mount. Those are the only two numbers Blizzard's own designer has given so far. Beta client datamining points to level 40 for the first tier and level 60 for the second, at Classic's familiar 60 and 100 percent ground speeds, but Blizzard has not confirmed those levels and nobody has published trainer names yet.
Even pre-purchase mounts carry this cost. The Cerulean Prideclaw that comes with the Skyborne Heroic Pack is a real ground mount, but Blizzard's own pre-purchase announcement is explicit that "players will need to purchase the riding skill in-game to access and use this mount." Owning the skin does not skip training.
How to get your first mount in WoW: Forever
The order is simple once riding opens up. Save while you quest, train when you hit the level, and the mount follows automatically.
- Keep questing and running dungeons while you save, since most of the price sits in the training fee rather than the mount.
- Reach the level Blizzard sets for the first riding tier. The beta is capped at level 30 and has not reached it yet, so treat any specific number you see online as a guess until Blizzard confirms it.
- Visit a riding trainer and pay the first training cost, budgeted around 100 gold.
- Your first ground mount is granted automatically with the training. There is no separate mount purchase.
- Save again for the second tier, budgeted around 1,000 gold, for the faster mount later in the leveling road.
New mounts confirmed for WoW: Forever
Beta datamining and Blizzard's own panels have already surfaced dozens of Forever-only mount skins, catalogued by Mobalytics on 19 September 2026. The new Skyborne race gets its own Galestrider family, in Empyrean, Regal, Stormy, and Umber variants, including "swift" crane-mount versions the listing calls very fast. A separate new family, Prideclaw, adds several more colors alongside the Cerulean Prideclaw from the Skyborne Heroic Pack pre-purchase.
The new Undead Paladin race-and-class combination gets two class mounts revealed at BlizzCon's Lore Panel: a Forsaken Warhorse at level 40, and a Forsaken Charger earned from its own level 60 Epic Mount quest, mirroring the Classic Paladin's horse-then-Charger progression. Other new skins include rideable Devilsaurs, Warden Sabers, and Druid Moose mounts in several colors, plus new Kodo variants, a Striped Dawnsaber, and a Venomhide Ravasaur. Separately, Blizzard's Deep Dive panel named a Spectral Bear Cub as a reward on the Legacy Reward Track, the account-wide track tied to Forever's new Legacy System; it is a companion pet, not a mount.
Once you know your account's gold total and your characters' levels, the hard part is remembering which character is closest to affording riding training. Wowdee's milestones feature can watch your gold and level together and flag the moment a character is close enough to its next riding tier to start saving on purpose.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Whether Blizzard's final riding tiers keep the beta client's datamined level 40 and level 60, and the 60 and 100 percent ground speeds that go with them.
- Riding trainer names and locations for each race's starting city.
