How gold making is different in WoW: Forever
WoW: Forever has no realms. Its auction houses share a market by ruleset and region, so a trick that worked on a small Classic server may behave differently here. A 22 September 2026 forum poster estimated the beta's PvE population at 25,000 to 40,000 players and cautioned that the numbers could be inaccurate. A larger market could put pressure on prices as a method gets popular.
Blizzard is also watching more closely than before. In a 17 September 2026 developer livestream, senior game designer Josh Greenfield said the team had been "too lenient" with gold buyers and will now "very aggressively punish" them, warning that even a 22-year-old account is not worth losing. Treat any gold seller as a risk to your account, not a shortcut.

Why vendoring crafted wands got nerfed
For most of Classic's history, crafting a cheap wand through Enchanting and selling it straight to a vendor was a small, steady source of early gold, because the vendor price matched or beat the material cost. Blizzard's 1 October 2026 beta development notes closed that loop: "All crafted common and uncommon quality wands now sell at vendors for 1 copper."
You can still list crafted wands on the auction house for other players, but there is no fixed, guaranteed buyer anymore. If you are leveling Enchanting, treat wand crafting as a skill-up chore rather than a gold farm, and save spare materials for recipes you intend to use or sell on the auction house.
Waylaid Crates, Merchant's Favor and gold sinks
Waylaid Crates are a world drop returning from WoW: Season of Discovery. You fill one with a bundle of cloth, ore, herbs, leather or crafted parts and turn it in to Marcy Baker at Three Corners in Redridge Mountains (Alliance) or Dokimi west of the Crossroads in the Barrens (Horde) for Merchant's Favor, a currency that buys powerful bind-on-pickup recipes.
Because the crafted items cannot be traded, Favor is not something you resell for profit, it works as a gold sink. One 22 September 2026 player report measured an Apprentice crate at 5 Favor and a Journeyman crate at 10, against a 30 Favor recipe cost, with the first turn-in granting a one-time 50 Favor bonus. The gold angle cuts the other way too: crates and the materials that fill them are both tradable, so gathering and selling the cloth, ore, herbs and leather that crates ask for is a reliable way to earn gold from players who would rather buy the mats than farm them.
Scarce materials worth farming early
Mining, Herbalism and Skinning now have a chance to drop an extra "Scarce" material alongside the normal yield. As of the 29 September 2026 beta, the confirmed drops are Pyrite from Mining, Frilled Lichen from Herbalism and Pristine Leather from Skinning. They feed recipes in other professions: Frilled Lichen goes into one Enchanting recipe and into an Alchemy dye that several Tailoring recipes need; Pyrite shows up in some Tailoring items; Pristine Leather feeds Leatherworking, Blacksmithing and Tailoring.
Keep every Scarce material you loot even if your own professions have no use for it. Crafters without the matching gathering profession will pay for them, and the pool is expected to grow: Bauxite and Pitchblende already appear in the Mining data as of late September.
How to make gold in your first levels
Wowdee will turn these habits into a leveling-era gold checklist: which materials to keep instead of vendor at your level, which Waylaid Crate bundle is cheapest to fill, and a flag when an auction house listing is actually underpriced rather than a trap.
- Gather on your questing route and keep cloth, ore, herbs and leather instead of vendoring them. The shared, realmless market still pays more than a vendor for materials crafters need.
- Hold on to any Pyrite, Frilled Lichen or Pristine Leather you loot. These sell even without a matching profession.
- Pick up every Waylaid Crate you find and check the auction house price for its cheapest fill before buying extra materials. The first turn-in grants a 50 Favor bonus on top of the crate reward.
- Stop crafting wands purely to vendor them. List spares on the auction house instead, and spend Enchanting materials on recipes you will actually use.
- Never buy gold from a seller. Blizzard has already signaled it will punish gold buyers hard, including permanent account loss.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Confirmed gold-making methods once the beta's level cap (raised to 30 on 1 October) climbs further and more dungeons and raids open
- Whether Blizzard adds a WoW Token to Forever at launch (reports conflict as of early October 2026)
- Whether ordinary Waylaid Crate turn-ins grant Durotar Supply and Logistics or Azeroth Commerce Authority reputation, or only the first one does (guides disagree)
- Launch-week auction house deposit and listing-fee structure if it changes from the beta
- Any official per-account gold cap for Forever (none announced as of 5 October 2026)
