What Diplomat does, in Blizzard's words
Diplomat sits in the Resourcefulness tree, and Blizzard's description is short: it increases reputation gains. It shares the same 16-point budget as every other perk on that character.
Players in the Legacy Points forum thread talk about '10% bonus rep' and call a full Diplomat 'basically mandatory during attunement grinds'. Those are player figures and opinions, not published values.

When moving points makes sense
A reputation perk earns its place in proportion to how much reputation you're about to gain. The decision comes down to four checks.
- Name the goal: a specific faction and the reward or access at the end of it. A vague 'rep is nice' rarely beats a perk you use every session.
- Count what you'd give up. On a leveling character Diplomat competes with Talented and Well Rested; at 60, with raid, PvP or gathering perks.
- Check the respec cost at your class trainer before swapping; Blizzard's Priest and Warrior deep dive puts Legacy talent changes with class trainers in major cities. Beta pricing won't settle the cost: the 8 October notes made the cheapest Legacy respec 1 silver, easing one step each hour, and limited that to the beta.
- Commit for the whole grind. Toggling Diplomat on and off around short sessions multiplies respec costs for small gains.
Two reputations Legacy planners already care about
Reaching Exalted with each of the four battleground reputations is its own Legacy Challenge, four points in all. Blizzard doesn't list exclusions for Diplomat, but it hasn't confirmed battleground reputations specifically.
The Azeroth Commerce Authority and Durotar Supply and Logistics, Forever's new trade factions, pay Merchant's Favor, and that has its own Professions perk, Performance Bonus. Whether Diplomat also helps there isn't stated, so don't count one faction's behaviour as proof for another.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Diplomat's rank count, per-rank bonus and Legacy Point gate.
- Which reputation sources it modifies, and how small gains round.
- Whether it applies to battleground reputations and to the two trade factions' Merchant's Favor.
