What changed for Herbalism
Every herb keeps its Classic skill requirement, from Peacebloom at 1 to Black Lotus at 300. WoW: Forever adds three things on top of that list: herb seeds that grow at a camp Greenhouse, three new endgame herbs, and extra Scarce materials that can drop while you gather.
Herbalism also learns its own three-step camp chain for Forever's Camping system. The first step, the Incense Candle, is the one Blizzard used as its example at the Forever Deep Dive: it gives nearby players bonus Intellect and does not stack with a mage's Arcane Intellect. A beta client guide groups all three Herbalism camp recipes under a crafting window named Gardening.

How do herb seeds and the Greenhouse work?
Gathering a herb now sometimes also drops a seed. The item records datamined from the beta client list four tiers, Commonplace, Uncommon, Unusual, and Scarce, but reports through early October name testers looting Commonplace, Uncommon, and Scarce Herb Seeds. The reports checked here do not mention an Unusual one.
A seed does nothing until you own one of Herbalism's two higher camp objects. The Greenhouse, crafted at Herbalism 140 from 2 Simple Wood, 1 Arthas' Tears, and 1 Purple Lotus, grows a planted seed into herbs over time and still gives the Incense Candle's Intellect buff. The Seed Hybridizer, at Herbalism 300 from 4 Mountain Silversage, 1 Crystal Vial, and 2 Runecloth, takes two seeds of the same tier and either multiplies them or pushes them up to the next rarer tier, on top of that same buff.
Both need a campfire nearby, share the one-hour cooldown every camp object uses, and either one can replace an Incense Candle already sitting at the campsite. As of early October testing, nobody has published where the Greenhouse or Seed Hybridizer blueprint actually drops. Keep any seed you loot. It is useless without the right camp object, but there is no reason to throw it away either.
- Gather herbs as usual. A seed sometimes drops alongside or instead of the herb.
- Set up a campfire and place a Greenhouse (Herbalism 140) or a Seed Hybridizer (Herbalism 300) on it.
- Plant one seed in the Greenhouse to grow it into herbs over time, or load two seeds of the same tier into the Hybridizer to multiply them or push them up a tier.
Three new endgame herbs
Forever adds three new endgame herbs: Marefoil, Demonsage, and Death Lotus. Beta data lists 10 recipes that use at least one of them: four new Alchemy flasks (Natural Precision, Natural Swiftness, Natural Accuracy, Natural Aggression), Blacksmithing's Legionite Glaive, two new Enchanting glove enchants, and three Engineering items including the Gnomish Weather Machine.
Where the three herbs actually grow has not been published. The one lead so far is Enchant Gloves - Lotus Claw, an Enchanting formula at 295 skill, which gives a small chance at a Death Lotus whenever you gather any herb in Hyjal.
Scarce materials and the Bountiful Harvest perk
Herbalism can also drop three Scarce materials while you gather ordinary herbs: Frilled Lichen, Rosecap, and Stranglevine. They feed new dye and enchant recipes rather than the usual flasks and potions.
Blizzard's own Legacy System write-up names the Professions-tree perk that applies here: Bountiful Harvest "helps you find additional Scarce resources when mining, herbing, or skinning." It is a Legacy Points purchase, not something Herbalism trains on its own, and it does not add more herbs to a node. Blizzard has not published its point cost or its percentage per rank. Treat any number you see online as unconfirmed until Blizzard says otherwise.
Where to train Herbalism
Beta guides list 12 Alliance, eight Horde, and four neutral Herbalism trainers, including two on the new Zephras Isle. Each of the six Classic starting zones also has a trainer who teaches Apprentice rank.
You can skip that first trip, too. Several starter-zone quests, such as Rascally Rodents, offer Wild Harvest as a reward choice. Using it teaches Herbalism on the spot if you do not already know two other professions, and adds 2 skill, up to a maximum of 15.
The Wowdee add-on + app will keep a checklist of which herb seeds and Scarce materials are worth keeping, so you are not vendoring or disenchanting a Commonplace Herb Seed before the Greenhouse gives it a use.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Where the Greenhouse and Seed Hybridizer blueprints actually drop.
- Where Marefoil, Demonsage, and Death Lotus grow, and what Herbalism skill each needs.
- Which herb each seed tier grows, and what a Seed Hybridizer actually outputs.
- Whether the Unusual seed tier is real outside item records, since no tester has reported looting one.
- Bountiful Harvest's point cost and its percentage per rank, which Blizzard has not published.
