The five quests, in pickup order
Hall of Thanes carries five quests in the current beta. Three can be picked up before you queue: Old Ironforge Incursion from Earthseer Farsen in Dun Morogh, The Restless Dead from Afadra Dunwall by the dungeon portal in Ironforge, and Important Heirlooms from Thom Filch on the bridge leading in. Two start inside: An Ancient Grudge from the Ghostly Attendant in the first hall, and The Treaty of Understanding from a tablet in the vault behind the last boss.
Each one ties to the run itself. Old Ironforge Incursion ends with Durgen Dirgehammer's head going to King Magni Bronzebeard. The Restless Dead wants 15 Enraged Apparitions and 10 Tormented Souls from the first halls. Important Heirlooms needs 8 Dwarven Heirlooms scattered through the dungeon, most of them in the vault after the last boss. An Ancient Grudge just asks you to put Faldrim Anvilmar down. The Treaty of Understanding is a straight fetch: grab the tablet, walk it to King Magni.
- Talk to Earthseer Farsen on the hill above Gol'Bolar Quarry in Dun Morogh.
- Kill Dark Iron Spies at Ironband's Compound until a Dark Iron Map drops, then hand it back to Farsen for Old Ironforge Incursion.
- At the dungeon portal in Ironforge, grab The Restless Dead from Afadra Dunwall and Important Heirlooms from Thom Filch.
- Inside, pick up An Ancient Grudge from the Ghostly Attendant in the first hall.
- After the last boss, open the vault for The Treaty of Understanding and the rest of your heirlooms.

How do you unlock Old Ironforge Incursion?
This one takes homework first. Earthseer Farsen, on the hill above Gol'Bolar Quarry in Dun Morogh, hands out Nip 'Em in the Bud: kill ten Dark Iron Spies at Ironband's Compound. One of them drops a Dark Iron Map, which starts a short breadcrumb quest called Underground Map. Turn that in to Farsen and he gives you Old Ironforge Incursion, which sends you after Durgen Dirgehammer's head and back to King Magni's throne.
Do this chain before your first run, not after. On 1 October 2026 Blizzard cut dungeon quests' bonus experience in half, so the Hall pays less than it did in the first beta week. It is still worth a trip with a full quest log. It is not worth a second clear just to sell the loot.
Can Horde players get these quests?
Only the hard way in. Beta reports agree on one route: fly to Kargath or Tarren Mill, cut through Loch Modan into Dun Morogh, strip your gear so a death costs no durability, and corpse-run past level 60 elite guards to reach the passage down from the High Seat. Players report 45 minutes to two hours for the trip. One player reports an inactive portal near Loch Modan, but nobody has found a quest that turns it on.
Guides disagree on what Horde gets once inside. One guide calls the quests Alliance-exclusive outright. Others, backed by player reports, say Horde can complete An Ancient Grudge and get credit for Important Heirlooms the same as Alliance, while The Restless Dead, Old Ironforge Incursion and The Treaty of Understanding stay locked behind Alliance-only NPCs. Treat two of five as the current best guess, not a promise, until Blizzard says otherwise.
Quest rewards worth the detour
Old Ironforge Incursion pays the best: a choice between the Calibrated Blunderbuss, the Ironforge Greathammer or the Deepblaze wand. The Restless Dead offers the Dusty Belt or Cryptwalker Bracers. Important Heirlooms gives the Dwarven Tome off-hand or Tomb Robber's Gloves. An Ancient Grudge rounds out with the Catacomb Cloak or Deepgrave Trousers. The Treaty of Understanding pays experience and silver only, no gear.
The Wowdee add-on and app will turn this into a checklist: which of the five Hall of Thanes quests you already hold, which NPC to find next, and whether the reward is worth the detour before you take the tram.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- An official Blizzard boss roster for Hall of Thanes, beyond the beta guides.
- Whether Horde's partial access to An Ancient Grudge and Important Heirlooms is an intended design or an unpatched oversight.
- A rumored Horde-side shortcut through the inactive Loch Modan portal; no beta report has confirmed what, if anything, opens it.
- Final quest experience and reward values, since Blizzard already cut dungeon quest bonus XP once on 1 October.
