Do world buffs work in WoW: Forever raids?
No, not for organizing a raid around them. World of Warcraft Game Director Ion Hazzikostas told Windows Central, in an interview published 18 September 2026, that WoW: Forever is rebalancing talent trees so every class is viable, and that tedious world buff farming for raiding is being removed from WoW: Forever. That is Windows Central's own description of what Hazzikostas said, not a word-for-word quote, but it is the clearest statement available as of 5 October 2026: no beta patch note or forum post spells out the exact mechanic yet, and it comes directly from the person running the franchise in a named interview with a published outlet.
Streamer Savix posted a clip during BlizzCon week saying WoW: Forever will not have world buffs in raids, and said on stream that this was based on what he remembered from talks with Blizzard staff, not a confirmed statement. That lines up with what Hazzikostas told Windows Central, and it is why the claim spread across the WoW: Forever forums and Reddit well before Blizzard put anything in writing. Whether the same exclusion extends to dungeons and battlegrounds, as some forum posts claim, is not yet confirmed.

Why Blizzard is doing this
Hazzikostas tied the change to a broader goal: rebalancing talent trees so every class is viable, something he said vanilla-style class design never fully achieved. Classic world buffs made that harder, because a raid that skipped Songflower Serenade or Warchief's Blessing fell behind one that collected them, and the collecting itself pressured guilds into set routes through Dire Maul and Felwood before every raid night. Removing the farm removes that pressure without Blizzard having to nerf the buffs directly.
What's still unconfirmed
The interview does not say how the removal actually works in game. Wowhead's Forever spell database still lists Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer as an active spell entry in the current beta client, with the same two-hour duration it had in Classic. The stat bonuses are already slightly higher than Classic's version, and the beta spell now persists through death, which the Classic version did not, so the buff exists but is not identical to its Classic self. Whether it gets suppressed the moment you zone into an instance, gets capped, or simply never gets farmed because raids are not tuned to need it, is not public yet.
It also has not been tested firsthand. The beta was capped at level 30 as of the 1 October build. Forever's first raid tier, Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, and the returning Onyxia's Lair, is not due to open until 9 December 2026, five weeks after the 4 November launch, so nobody can test world buffs against them yet.
World buffs in Classic, for context
If you never raided in WoW Classic, here is why this question gets asked so often. Classic world buffs are stat boosts collected outside a raid and carried into one: Rallying Cry of the Dragonslayer from an Onyxia or Nefarian kill, Songflower Serenade from a flower in Felwood, Warchief's Blessing from a Horde-only quest chain, and three separate Dire Maul Tribute buffs from a solo instance run.
Raiding guilds built entire pre-raid routines around gathering them, paying warlocks for summons and hunters for Dire Maul runs, and a bad wipe could strip the whole raid of every buff at once. Most of the posts cheering Hazzikostas's comment are reacting to that routine specifically, not to world buffs as a concept.
Camp buffs: the outdoor buff system Forever is adding
Forever does have one outdoor buff system that is fully confirmed: the Basic Campfire. Sit at a camp for a short time and you pick up a one-hour buff, and nearby players can add a profession object, such as a Sharpening Wheel from a Blacksmith or a Faction Banner from a Tailor, each granting its own bonus. Blizzard's deep dive recap describes these as variants of class buffs that do not stack with the real thing, a different design problem from classic world buffs, but it shows the team is already managing how outdoor buffs reach into group content elsewhere in the game.
Until Blizzard publishes the exact mechanic, treat the details as unsettled even though the direction is confirmed. The Wowdee add-on + app will track WoW: Forever beta notes and developer interviews and flag the moment world buffs or camp buffs change, so your raid prep is not built on a secondhand clip.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- The exact mechanic Blizzard uses to keep world buffs out of raids: suppression on zoning in, a cap, or just an untuned need for them.
- Whether the same exclusion extends to dungeons and battlegrounds, as some forum posts claim, beyond what Hazzikostas and Savix have said about raids specifically.
- Whether classic world buffs like Dire Maul Tribute and Warchief's Blessing return at all outside raids, or only some of them.
- How world buffs interact with camp buffs once both exist in the open world at the same time.
- First-hand beta or live results once Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit, and Onyxia's Lair open on 9 December 2026.
