When do the Skyborne SD models arrive?
Standard-definition Skyborne character models and standard-definition Druid forms are in development for early 2027. Blizzard confirmed that window on 7 October 2026 and shared an early work-in-progress image. It has not announced an exact day or patch for their release.
The early-2027 window covers both the SD character models and the SD Druid forms. It is a development target, not confirmation that the models are already available in the current beta. If the classic look is central to your character choice, judge that timing separately from whether you want to play a Skyborne now.

Why Blizzard is adding an SD option
Forever’s SD and HD model options initially focused on races with existing classic models. Skyborne are new, so they did not have the same original model set to draw from. Feedback highlighted how their appearance could feel out of place alongside older characters and environments.
Blizzard describes the work as bringing Skyborne closer to the visual style of original World of Warcraft while expanding player choice. SD is an alternative artistic treatment for players who prefer that look. The announcement does not describe removing the HD option.
Skyborne remain the race introduced in Blizzard’s character-creation overview: Horde-aligned Windshapers can become Shaman, while Alliance-aligned High Order Skyborne can become Mages. The visual announcement is about their appearance; it does not announce a new set of racial abilities or class choices.
The HD Druid changes are a separate project
Blizzard also previewed revisions to high-definition Druid forms. The examples show less softness, more pronounced fur detail and adjustments to color saturation, intended to help the forms fit Forever’s world. Those HD changes are distinct from building the new SD models.
Keep the two timelines separate. Early 2027 is the stated arrival window for SD Skyborne models and SD Druid forms. The same post does not attach a shipping date to the HD revisions. A comparison image shows the art direction the team is exploring; it does not establish that a particular beta build has received it.
What to check before choosing your look
Use Blizzard’s original preview, linked below, to inspect the actual work in progress. Our workshop painting is an illustration of that process, not an in-game screenshot or a recreation of the final models.
For a Druid, look at both the character model and the shapeshift forms. They are separate parts of the visual update, and the appearance you spend most of your time in may be a bear or a cat. Revisit the released models and patch notes when Blizzard announces their availability; today’s preview is not a complete final customization catalogue.
