What changed in WoW Forever priest talents

Priests keep their three trees in WoW: Forever: Discipline, Holy, and Shadow. Talents still start at level 10, but Blizzard added a new 16-point milestone talent alongside the familiar 11, 21, and 31-point gold medals, so every tree now hands out one extra marquee choice on the way to 31 points.

Several spells that used to be racial or talent-gated are now baseline. Fear Ward and Devouring Plague open up to every Priest at level 20 regardless of race, Divine Spirit becomes baseline at level 30, and Shadow Word: Death joins the spellbook automatically at level 32. Dual Specialization unlocks at level 40, and every respec, including Legacy talents, happens at a class trainer in a major city.

Forever's Priest keeps Light and Shadow in one class, with new healing tools and a wand that matters more while leveling.

New healing tools in Discipline and Holy

Discipline's new 21-point gold medal is Penance, a 2-second channel on a 12-second cooldown that deals damage to enemies or heals allies tick by tick. Soul Warding, a new 16-point talent, cuts Power Word: Shield's cooldown and mana cost, and Renewed Hope builds on it by boosting crit chance on several heals cast into Weakened Soul. Divine Aegis turns critical heals into a short absorb shield, and new row-1 talents Power in Light and Twin Disciplines add damage to Smite and Penance cast on Holy Fire targets, plus damage and healing from instant-cast spells.

Holy gets its own new 16-point gold medal, Binding Heal, a spell with no cooldown that heals the Priest and their target at once, tuned to match Flash Heal even when the Priest does not need the heal. Prayer of Mending becomes the new 31-point gold medal, a charge that jumps between up to five party or raid members once Spirit of Redemption is trained. Lightwell and Improved Prayer of Healing are gone, and Prayer of Healing itself now heals the whole target's party and pets instead of just the caster's own group.

Shadow trades raid buffs for solo damage

Shadowform changed the most. It now lets Priests cast all non-healing spells while shapeshifted, cuts the mana cost of Shadow spells by 50%, and doubles the critical strike damage bonus on Shadow spells, though its flat damage bonus dropped to compensate. Devouring Contagion, a new row-5 talent, cuts Devouring Plague's mana cost and lets it jump to a fresh target when the afflicted enemy dies, and Early Demise raises Shadow Word: Death's crit chance on targets under 20% health.

The cost is raid utility. Shadow Weaving now only buffs the casting Priest's own damage instead of the whole raid's, and Vampiric Embrace moved up to a 16-point gold medal with a longer 30-second duration but a 1-minute cooldown. On Reddit, players who tested the build in mid-September 2026 noted the tree lost its old mana-battery role for Warlocks along with Misery and Vampiric Touch, trading raid support for a tree built to carry its own damage.

How wands and mana hold up while leveling

Wand Specialization still exists in Discipline, but now costs only two points for the same bonus, freeing up early points for other talents. The beta's late-September build also nerfed wands so they no longer gain extra damage from spell power, a change players on Reddit called the biggest Priest nerf of that patch. The wand spell-power change is already live in the beta. The 1 October build then fixed several Priest bugs: Devouring Plague can critically strike again, Shadow Word: Death only benefits from Early Demise when the target is actually low on health, and Shadow Weaving no longer fails to apply.

Mana sustain improved elsewhere. Meditation, a Discipline talent, now converts Spirit into mana at a much higher rate, and leveling guides built from beta testing still lean on Spirit Tap in the Shadow tree to refill mana after every kill. A Lesser Magic Wand becomes usable at level 5 and is worth crafting through Enchanting or buying from the auction house, since a leveling guide flags the wand as the single biggest early damage and mana-saving upgrade a leveling Priest can get.

Talent builds for leveling a WoW Forever priest

Guides built around the beta agree on a rough shape for leveling 1 to 40, even though exact point allocations keep shifting build to build.

Picking the right talent at each tree's 16-point and 21-point gold medals, and respeccing again at level 30 and 40, takes real planning, especially once the beta's discounted one-silver respec goes back to full price. The Wowdee add-on + app will offer a Priest talent checklist that flags the next point to grab for your leveling or healing goal, so you are not guessing at the trainer.

  1. Levels 1-29: put two points into Wand Specialization, then fill the Shadow tree with Spirit Tap, Shadow Focus, Shadow Reach, and Mind Flay for mana-light solo questing.
  2. Level 30: respec to Discipline for Penance, which one leveling guide expects to hit hard enough to carry solo leveling until Shadowform opens up.
  3. Level 40: train Shadowform, respec fully into Shadow, and use the Dual Specialization that unlocks at the same level to keep a Discipline or Holy build saved for dungeon healing.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Exact Penance damage and healing-per-tick numbers once live testing confirms tuning
  • Confirmation of Spirit Tap's current values in the Shadow tree, since Blizzard's own notes do not list it among changed talents
  • Whether the late-September wand spell-power nerf survives further beta builds and launch
  • Priest talent and spell tuning past level 30, since the beta level cap has not opened higher yet
  • Any PvP-specific tuning for Shadow Priest once battlegrounds open in testing
