Why does inviting someone move you to a new instance?
Forever runs several parallel copies of a busy zone at once, called world instances, so one area does not get overcrowded. Creating or changing a party can move you into a different copy mid-fight. WoW Classic called this layering; Forever does the same thing through world instances tied to your ruleset instead of separate realms.
On 24 September 2026, the beta known issues said creating or changing a party may transfer players to a different world instance, and Blizzard said they were working on it. The 1 October 2026 beta development notes report adjustments to world instances and say party leaders should no longer be transferred when a party is created or its composition changes. That note is not on the known issues list Blizzard updated the same day, which matches a fix landing for the leader specifically.
The note does not say every other member stays put. If you invite someone and the mob, the camp, or the person you were just fighting beside disappears, you crossed into a new instance. As the leader, the 1 October change is meant to stop that from happening to you, though beta players were still reporting instance changes around invites and group changes as late as 3 October. If you were the one invited, check your surroundings before you keep swinging.

Who you can actually party with in Forever
Forever is realmless. You pick a ruleset, not a realm from a long list: Normal, where PvP needs both players' consent; PvP, for open world conflict; Roleplaying; and Hardcore, available after launch. Each ruleset works like its own large ecosystem. You cannot group, queue for a dungeon, or raid across rulesets, and Horde and Alliance still cannot group together inside any of them.
Hardcore stays sealed off from the other rulesets while your character is alive. If a Hardcore character dies, it can move to another ruleset, including PvP, carrying its collections and Legacy Points with it. Progress earned in the other rulesets cannot flow back into Hardcore, and Blizzard's Legacy System rundown confirms PvP Legacy Challenges specifically cannot be completed while playing Hardcore.
Character names are two parts and unique per region, and you can set a language preference to meet players who picked the same one. Neither one is a control that hops you into a specific or quieter instance. Blizzard has not described a player-facing way to pick your instance.
Before you hit invite
A few habits protect a pull while Blizzard keeps checking the fix for the rest of the party.
This matters most for named spawns, quest items, and crafting or camping objects that only exist in one instance at a time. A pull that was clean a minute ago can reset entirely once the party changes.
Wowdee will not be able to see which world instance you are standing in. What the Wowdee add-on + app will do is line up the outing before you move: agree the dungeon or camp, split who brings which supplies, and set a meeting point, so the invite itself is the only moment a layer change can cost you anything.
- Finish the pull you are already in before you send the invite.
- Send the invite, then check your own feet and the ground around the group.
- Confirm the quest mob, item, or named spawn you needed is still there.
- If it is gone, you landed in a different instance from the one you were just fighting in.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Whether members other than the leader still change instance after 1 October.
- A way to return to the instance you left.
- How full a ruleset gets before Forever opens a new instance.
