What changed for every paladin spec
Four old World of Warcraft spells came back as new baseline tools in the beta. Holy Strike, an instant weapon strike that deals Holy damage, is trainable at level 6 and now scales from 25 to 50 percent of weapon damage across its eight ranks after a 24 September 2026 pass that raised every early rank. Its 12-second cooldown dropped to a baseline 10 seconds in that same patch, which also removed the Improved Holy Strike talent and folded its job into the base spell. Seal of Fury returned as Protection's tanking seal, with its Judgment acting as the class's only taunt. Blessing of Kings and Consecration both became trainable by every paladin at level 20.
Judgment also stopped eating your seal, so you are not recasting it after every cast, and most Judgment debuffs, Seal of Justice aside, now last 40 seconds instead of 10. Divine Shield traded its old 100 percent attack-speed penalty for the Wrath of the Lich King version, a flat 50 percent cut to the damage you deal while it is up. Lay on Hands' cooldown fell to 20 minutes from an hour, though Improved Lay on Hands' old 30 percent armor bonus went with it. Holy Wrath now stuns Undead and Demons for 2 seconds, and the Fire, Frost, and Shadow Resistance Auras cover the whole raid instead of one group.

How Holy paladin healing uses Light's Vigil
Light's Vigil is Holy's new capstone, unlocked at 30 points in the tree. Cast it on an ally or an enemy and it sits for 30 seconds, and your next Holy Shock on that target skips its cooldown entirely. Against an enemy it deals 182 Holy damage and refunds 75 percent of Light's Vigil's own mana cost, a refund that a 24 September 2026 tooltip rewrite confirmed only applies to that damage version, not the heal. Cast on an ally, it heals the target's party for 324 instead. You can only have one Light's Vigil active per party, the cast takes 1.5 seconds, costs 730 mana, and carries its own 6-second cooldown.
Holy Shock's baseline cooldown is 10 seconds. Infusion of Light shaves 0.5 seconds off your next Holy Light cast whenever Holy Shock or Flash of Light crits, so you are not casting the same spell every time. Divine Favor guarantees a crit on your next Flash of Light, Holy Light, or Holy Shock. Illumination turns any of those crits, Light's Vigil included, into a mana refund worth half the spell's base cost.
Why Spirit and crit matter for Holy
Intellect still raises your mana pool and your spell crit chance, and crit chance is worth chasing because Illumination turns it straight into mana back. Spirit regenerates mana while you are not casting, and Reverence lets 30 percent of that regeneration keep running through a cast, the closest thing Forever gives Holy to beating the old five-second rule.
Guides do not fully agree on where Spirit lands next to raw Healing Power and Intellect in the stat order, but they agree it and crit chance feed the same mana loop. For leveling, Holy Strike's flat Holy damage helps any paladin, and Dwarf's Big Game Hunter, bonus damage against the beasts you fight most on the way to level 30, edges out Human for the climb. Build around Holy long-term instead and that flips: Human's Sword Specialization adds crit to your heals and The Human Spirit adds Spirit, pulling ahead of Dwarf's mace-focused kit.
What the October tuning changed
The 1 October 2026 beta build also retuned specific talents. Protection's Redoubt now raises your block chance by 4, 8, 12, 16, or 20 percent per stack, down from 6 to 30 percent. Holy Shield's block chance became a flat 30 percent, up from 20. Retribution's Champion of the Light now turns 20, 40, or 60 percent of Intellect into spell damage, down from 33, 66, or 100, and the same patch removed a tooltip that wrongly said it boosted healing. That build also raised the beta's level cap to 30, so 21 of the eventual 51 talent points are all anyone can spend right now.
Wowdee will turn whichever paladin tree you are building into a simple checklist: the next talent to grab, point by point, as you level toward 30 and beyond.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- Level 60 Holy talent point allocation and ranks past the 21-point beta cap.
- Whether the October tuning to Redoubt, Holy Shield, or Champion of the Light moves again before launch.
- Whether the known Retribution Aura spell-power bug (it currently uses the target's spell power) is fixed before launch.
- A single published stat-weight order for Spirit versus Intellect and crit at level 60.
