When does Early Name Reservation open?
Early Name Reservation for WoW: Forever runs from 27 October 2026 through 3 November 2026, according to Blizzard's official forums post on the feature. That is eight days before the live realms open on 4 November 2026 at 3:00 p.m. PST.
Blizzard labels the window as PST. The exact opening hour is not published, so use the announced dates rather than converting an assumed time. Playing the WoW: Forever beta beforehand does not reserve a name for you either: Method's beta guide notes that beta access does not carry your characters or their names into the live game, so you still need the dedicated reservation window to lock one in.

Who qualifies, and the subscription mix-up
Reservation is open to any account that pre-purchases a paid WoW: Forever upgrade: the Skyborne Heroic Pack, the Skyborne Epic Pack, or the Warcraft Forever Collection. Any one of the three unlocks it, so you do not need the priciest edition just to claim a name.
In late September, a support reply suggested you also needed an active subscription or game time just to log into the character creator during the window, which would have burned days of game time before launch even began. Blizzard Community Manager Yryadorne corrected that on the forums around 28 September: there is no subscription or game time requirement for the reservation phase, only the pack purchase. The earlier support guidance was wrong.
Reservation only applies to the WoW account that bought the qualifying pack, so a shared household needs its own purchase per account.
How many names you can reserve
A qualifying account can log into the full character creator and build, customize, and name up to three characters during the window, per Blizzard's forums post. That is a real character, not just a typed name: you still pick race, class, and appearance, and the character is saved until the live realms open.
- Pre-purchase one of the three paid upgrades.
- Log in any time between 27 October and 3 November 2026.
- Build up to three characters and lock in a first and last name for each.
- Your saved characters carry over when the live realms open on 4 November 2026.
First names, last names, and the naming rules
Every WoW: Forever character needs two names: a first name and a last name, also called a surname or secondary name. Blizzard's official post on the system explains that only the complete two-name combination has to be unique within your region, so two characters can share a first name as long as the full name is different.
You can hide the secondary name from floating over your character's head. Press Escape, open Options, go to Nameplates, and check "My Secondary Name." It still appears in chat.
Standard naming rules still apply. Names cannot break the in-game code of conduct, impersonate Blizzard or the WoW team, or use restricted words or repeated-character patterns, and the filter checks both name parts together, so splitting a banned word across the two fields will not get it past the system. If every combination you try is taken or rejected, the in-game random name generator is there as a backup.
Reservation is first-come, first-served, so a popular combination can still disappear even if your account qualifies.
When the window opens on 27 October, the Wowdee add-on and app will hold your shortlist of first-and-last name combinations for all three reservation slots and remind you the moment reservation goes live, so you are not improvising a name at the last second.
