What the level 10 pet quest teaches

At level 10, your class trainer sends you to a race-specific taming trainer for three Taming the Beast quests. Each one hands you a Taming Rod and asks you to tame one local beast, then report back before moving to the next (Wowhead Forever, Taming the Beast quest chain, quest 6083). Finishing the third tame teaches you Tame Beast, the spell you use to tame pets from then on.

A follow-up quest, Training the Beast, then sends you to a race-specific trainer: Ormak Grimshot in Orgrimmar for Orc and Troll, Belia Thundergranite in Ironforge for Dwarf, Holt Thunderhorn on Hunter Rise in Thunder Bluff for Tauren, Jocaste in the Cenarion Enclave for Night Elf, and Isaac Chan in Goldshire for Human (Wowhead Forever, quests 6081, 6086, 6089, 6103 and 94793). Turning that quest in casts the Beast Training spell, which Wowhead's Forever database lists with three learn effects fired in one cast: Beast Training, Feed Pet and Revive Pet (Wowhead Forever, spell 5300).

ForeverWisp's Alliance Skyborne guide names Quel'ana Quickgale at Valanaar for three taming lessons: Windsong Crawler, Ornery Galestrider and Vuldren Alpha. Its follow-up Training the Beast goes to Quel'dora Quickgale. That is beta-guide reporting for High Order Skyborne; the Windshaper route still needs verification.

  1. Reach level 10 and take the pet quest from your class trainer.
  2. Travel to your race's taming trainer and accept the first Taming the Beast quest.
  3. Tame the beast named in the quest with your Taming Rod, then turn it in for the next one in the chain.
  4. Repeat for the second and third Taming the Beast quests to learn Tame Beast.
  5. Take Training the Beast to the trainer named in that quest, to learn Beast Training, Feed Pet and Revive Pet.

How to feed your pet in WoW: Forever

Feed Pet is instant, free, and only works within 10 yards while you are out of combat (Wowhead Forever, spell 6991). Right-click a food item onto your pet, or drag it onto the pet's unit frame. The spell's own tooltip says using food close to your pet's level gets a better happiness result than a cheap stack of the lowest food you own.

Once Training the Beast has taught you Feed Pet, feed the permanent pet you tame for yourself. The three practice tames come before that spell unlock, so save the feeding routine for your own companion after the quest chain.

The missing Feed Pet and Revive Pet bug

A Troll hunter on Blizzard's official Forever beta forum finished the full taming chain and never received Feed Pet or Revive Pet. Checking their Training the Beast quest with /run print(C_QuestLog.IsQuestFlaggedCompleted(6081)) returned true, confirming the quest itself was marked complete even though the two pet spells never arrived (Blizzard Forums, 29 September 2026).

This sits alongside other pet-ability drops beta hunters are seeing. The 1 October development notes say several tameable beasts had pet-ability ranks set too high for their level, and fixing that "could result in a bug where your pet 'forgot' the pet ability," which Blizzard says "should not happen after this fix" (Blizzard, WoW Forever Beta Development Notes, 1 October 2026). It is a different cause, but the same symptom many hunters are reporting: a pet that quietly loses an ability it already had.

What to try if training will not work

A related error, "You can't do that right now" when opening pet training, shows up for some hunters right after the final tame. On the US beta forums, players cleared it by disabling controller support, or by dismissing the pet from the final tame and taming a different beast instead (Blizzard Forums, 18 September 2026).

For the missing Feed Pet and Revive Pet grant itself, there is no confirmed fix as of 5 October 2026. Report it in-game, note which race's Training the Beast quest you finished, and check back with the trainer after a relog, since that has unstuck similar pet bugs for other hunters this beta.

Wowdee will turn this chain into a simple checklist: the three taming rods, the correct trainer for your race, and the exact abilities each turn-in should hand you, so you can tell a slow quest from a missing reward at a glance.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Whether Blizzard has shipped a fix for the missing Feed Pet and Revive Pet grant.
  • The Windshaper Skyborne hunter trainer and taming targets, plus independent confirmation of the High Order beta-guide route.
  • Why one EU beta report says the Night Elf chain grants Revive Pet at the first turn-in but defers Feed Pet to a second Darnassus quest, when Wowhead's Forever quest and spell data for Night Elf show both granted together in one cast.
  • Whether pet loyalty rank is what actually triggers the "You can't do that right now" pet training error, as one unconfirmed EU beta forum reply suggests.
