What level is Deadmines in WoW: Forever?

You still enter the Deadmines through the same house in Moonbrook, Westfall. The lowest related quest unlocks at character level 9, and Zockify's own dungeon table lists level 10 as the minimum to queue (3 October 2026).

Guides do not agree on the range above that floor. Zockify's own dungeon table lists a recommended level of 16. Icy Veins calls it a level 17 to 26 dungeon (23 September 2026). Wowforeverbuilds.com reads the WoW: Forever dungeon chart as 18 to 24, with level 21 as the sweet spot. Mobalytics puts it at 17 to 21, with a level 19 party as the most comfortable fit. None of this comes from a Blizzard-published chart, so treat the exact numbers as beta estimates that can still move before launch.

Horde access has not changed from Classic: the only way in is the long boat ride from Ratchet in the Barrens. The regular quest line and the Paladin item are written for Alliance characters, and sources disagree on how many Stormwind turn-ins Horde can also pick up. The one piece confirmed open to both sides is the faction-neutral Darkmoon Faire chest.

The Deadmines quests, including the new Toxic Soil chain

WoW: Forever adds one new quest here, Destruction in Deadmines. It is the dungeon step of the Toxic Soil chain, an 11-quest storyline that starts at level 12 with Testing the Wells from Alba Fairmoon at Sentinel Hill in Westfall. By the time the chain sends you into the Deadmines at level 18, you have already tested poisoned wells and scouted Moonbrook. Inside, you find the hidden forge behind the poisoning and plant Extra-Destructive Explosives beside it, then meet Alba Fairmoon in the hills behind Moonbrook to set them off. The full chain pays 8,235 experience (Wowhead's Forever quest data, via WCLBox, 5 October 2026).

The rest of the Alliance quest line keeps its Classic shape. The Defias Brotherhood, from Gryan Stoutmantle at Sentinel Hill, wants the Head of VanCleef and pays a choice of Chausses, Tunic, or Staff of Westfall. Red Silk Bandanas asks for ten bandanas off Defias mobs for a weapon choice. VanCleef also drops An Unsent Letter, which cannot be shared and opens an eight-step chain that eventually leads into The Stockade. Two Stormwind turn-ins, Collecting Memories and Oh Brother..., send you after items from the undead miners and Foreman Thistlenettle outside the instance, no full clear required.

Paladins get their own stop: The Test of Righteousness needs Whitestone Oak Lumber from a Deadmines goblin, one of four items for a chain that ends in Verigan's Fist. Either faction can also carry a Darkmoon Faire fortune into the dungeon and loot the Mysterious Deadmines Chest for a Mysterious Lockbox. Wowforeverbuilds.com lists several Stormwind turn-ins as open to Horde as well, while Icy Veins and Zockify both say Horde has no regular Deadmines quests at all. That is not settled, so check your own quest log rather than counting on a Horde turn-in being there.

  1. Pick up Testing the Wells from Alba Fairmoon at Sentinel Hill, Westfall, around level 12.
  2. Work through the Toxic Soil chain, including Explosive Consultation and A Dynamite Plan.
  3. Accept Destruction in Deadmines from Alba Fairmoon at level 18.
  4. Find the hidden forge inside the Deadmines and plant the Extra-Destructive Explosives.
  5. Leave the dungeon and meet Alba Fairmoon in the hills behind Moonbrook to detonate them.

Deadmines loot in WoW: Forever, including its two rings

Deadmines keeps all eight Classic bosses: Rhahk'Zor, the rare Miner Johnson, Sneed and his Shredder, Gilnid, Mr. Smite, Captain Greenskin, the optional Cookie, and Edwin VanCleef. Between them they drop two rings, the Agility-leaning Lavishly Jeweled Ring off Gilnid and the Strength-leaning First Mate Band off Mr. Smite, both item level 22 (Zockify's loot table, 3 October 2026). They are the only finger-slot items in the dungeon, which is why they turn up on so many early-twenties wishlists.

A few other drops stand out. Sneed drops Blueprint: Repair Bot, an item level 25 Engineering recipe well above the rest of the dungeon's gear. Cookie, hiding in the ship's galley, drops the Cat Carrier (Siamese) pet. VanCleef is also where An Unsent Letter starts, so it is worth looting even if you skip the quest.

A handful of item stats have changed from Classic too. A beta client datamine published by Wowforeverbuilds.com (build 1.60.1.70205, 5 October 2026) shows the Rockslicer axe now lets you gather ore veins without a Mining skill on top of its Strength bonus, the Blackened Defias Belt trades flat Strength for Attack Power, and Corsair's Overshirt gains both a Healing stat and Spell Damage. These are single-build beta numbers, and the datamine itself notes they can still change before launch.

Getting your group ready for the Deadmines

The fight order has not changed from what longtime players remember. Mr. Smite stuns the whole party partway through his fight and swaps weapons, Captain Greenskin patrols with a caster worth killing first, and VanCleef calls in extra Defias guards as his health drops. Current beta write-ups describe the same mechanics, so bring the crowd control you would have brought in Classic.

Wowdee will turn this into a Deadmines checklist: which Toxic Soil and Westfall quests you still need, plus a standing wishlist for the Lavishly Jeweled Ring or First Mate Band if either slot is still open.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • No Blizzard-published level chart yet; the spread between guides (16, 17-21, 17-26, 18-24) needs an official number.
  • Whether Horde gets any of the Stormwind turn-ins (Collecting Memories, Oh Brother, Underground Assault) beyond the Darkmoon Faire chest is unconfirmed and contradicted between sources.
  • Boss-specific drop rates beyond the currently datamined item list have not been published.
  • Whether the item stat changes seen in build 1.60.1.70205 survive to the 4 November 2026 launch.
