Where is the WoW Forever AddOns folder?
During the beta, the Forever client keeps its own installation folder, and the AddOns path sits under it. The current beta location is World of Warcraft/_classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/. Each addon's own folder goes straight inside AddOns, with its .toc file inside that folder, not nested one level deeper.
CurseForge now lists a growing "Forever" flavor for addons built against client 1.60.1 and interface number 16001, and individual addon pages state that version directly.
_classic_beta_ is a beta-client folder name, not a promise about the folder at launch on 4 November 2026. Recheck the path once the live client ships, the same way Classic and Anniversary realms each got their own folder before settling.
- On CurseForge, open the addon's project page and pick the file or flavor marked "Forever" or "1.60.1", not Retail, Classic Era, or TBC.
- Download it manually, or install it through the CurseForge app.
- Unzip the addon's folder straight into _classic_beta_/Interface/AddOns/ (or the Forever client's AddOns folder after launch).
- Restart the client, then enable the addon from the AddOns list at character select.
- Log out to character select and back in once to confirm the addon's settings actually stick.

What the Midnight-era API restricts
Blizzard confirmed through the WoW UI Discord on 16 September 2026 that addons are part of Forever, running on the same restricted API Blizzard shipped for Midnight on Mainline WoW. A Blizzard representative wrote that WoW Forever shares Mainline WoW's UI architecture, including the vast majority of APIs available in patch 12.1.5.
That carries the Midnight addon restrictions over wholesale: secret values the UI can show a player but an addon can't read or do arithmetic on, plus the patch 12.1 changes to aura containers. In a separate interview, Blizzard's classic design lead and encounter design lead said computational addons, the kind that solve combat math for players, stay restricted too.
This is why WeakAuras has no Forever build and why older cooldown trackers and scrolling combat text addons don't behave the way they used to. Addon authors and players have asked Blizzard on the forums to ease the restriction for Forever specifically, since it has no rated PvP or Mythic-style content, without a public answer yet.
The same announcement confirmed Forever ships its own built-in damage meter and cooldown manager, covering two jobs that used to send most players to an addon.
Why WoW Forever addons aren't saving settings
Since around 18 September 2026, players have reported on the Blizzard forums that addon settings write to disk correctly but don't load back in, sometimes after a /reload and sometimes only after a full client restart. Reports differ on the exact trigger, but it resets things like Baganator's settings and the built-in Issue Reporter's window position.
Blizzard's own beta known issues list, most recently updated 1 October 2026, does not include this SavedVariables bug, so there's no official fix date yet. Players describe it as a client-side loading bug, not something an addon author can patch around from their end.
Community workaround addons such as ForeverSVFix and Forever Data Protect restore an addon's last-known-good settings on load. Both authors flagged in late September that a newer 1.60.1 build seemed to fix the underlying loader, but other beta guides were still describing the same bug in early October, so treat any report of a fix as unconfirmed. Back up your WTF folder before a long UI-tuning session either way, since a beta patch can still wipe it.
Which WoW Forever addons already work?
If you just want the shortlist of WoW Forever addons that work right now, players tracking a running list on r/WowUI report these on the beta as of late September 2026: ClassicUI Forever (the full classic interface), Baganator (bags, the community's pick over Bagnon), Auctionator, AtlasLootForever, Platynator, GODMODE NamePlates, BugSack with BugGrabber, MBB, AckisRecipeList, and ForeverAuras as a WeakAuras-style stand-in.
DBM lists Forever as a supported flavor on its main CurseForge project. Questie's main project shipped an official Forever release on 25 September 2026 for client 1.60.1, though new Forever quests and townsfolk were still missing from that first build, so check your installed version before trusting a missing quest marker.
Addons still without a working Forever build as of early October 2026 include Quartz, EavesDrop, PlateBuffs, and a full MikScrollingBattleText replacement. Players are using Parrot 3 with FontMagic as a stand-in for scrolling combat text in the meantime.
Settings keep resetting mid-beta, which makes it easy to lose track of which addons you've installed, confirmed working, and still need to recheck after the next build. The Wowdee add-on + app will keep that as one running checklist tied to your characters, so a patch doesn't send you back through old forum threads to remember your setup.
Still to come
Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:
- The permanent AddOns folder path once Forever leaves beta on 4 November 2026 (the beta uses _classic_beta_, which Blizzard hasn't promised to keep).
- Whether the SavedVariables bug is actually fixed as of the 1.60.1 build. Two workaround-addon authors suspect so, but other beta guides still described it as broken in early October.
- Whether Blizzard eases the Midnight-era computational-addon restriction before launch, as players and addon authors have asked on the forums.
- A settled, launch-day compatibility list once in-progress ports (ForeverAuras, Ellesmere's UI suite, the newest official Questie Forever build) stabilize.
