How many bosses are in WoW: Forever's raids?

WoW: Forever's first raid tier opens on 9 December 2026 with three raids. Barrow Deeps, for 10 players, has eight bosses. Hyjal Summit, for 20, has thirteen. Onyxia's Lair, for 40, is still the one dragon. That makes 21 new fights, and it matches what the developers said on the official WoW: Forever Podcast on 22 October: more than 20 new bosses between the 10- and 20-player raids.

The counts come from the Legacy System. Blizzard's Legacy post asks you to defeat all eight Barrow Deeps bosses for one Legacy Point and all 13 Hyjal Summit bosses for another, with a third point for defeating Onyxia.

Blizzard hasn't announced the bosses with art, abilities or loot. When the host asked Lead Encounter Designer Michael Nuthals for favourite fights, Nuthals began by saying the raid bosses hadn't been announced, and a colleague pointed out that their names are already in the Legacy System.

Every Barrow Deeps and Hyjal Summit boss name

Blizzard Watch read the names from the Legacy Challenges menu in the BlizzCon demo on 14 September, three days before the beta opened. The Warcraft Wiki and Warcraft Tavern list the same 21. The menu is a checklist, not a pull order, so the table below doesn't number them. The wiki lists Sonya Darkhallow and Nythus as the last bosses of their raids.

A few spellings differ between sources. Blizzard Watch copied the menu's Nythus the Dreadmbound with a [sic] and thinks Dreambound was meant; the wiki reads Dreambound and Warcraft Tavern reads Dreadbound. Sylvestris Dusksong and Elder Minderel each have a one-letter variant too. Treat the exact spellings as unconfirmed until the raids open.

The four fights the designers described

Nuthals described three encounters without naming them. In Barrow Deeps, one fight gives you a buff that raises your damage at a cost, so every raider decides how far to chase the damage meter before it gets them killed. Another Barrow Deeps fight is a pair of spiders.

In Hyjal Summit, there's an undead, crocolisk-like wild god possessed by another creature. The possessor breaks out of the body, and the fight swings between killing the husk and attacking the ghost inside it. A colleague added a fourth: a body horror fight, also in Hyjal Summit.

None of the four is matched to a name yet. Ravus and Darlissa is the only two-name entry in Barrow Deeps, and Khalith the Dreadspinner sounds like a spider, but the designers didn't say which fight is which.

How the two raids are laid out

Blizzard's 20 October raid overview gives the shape of each raid, if not its bosses. Barrow Deeps is the prison beneath Kalimdor that held Illidan, with three ways in, through Mount Hyjal, Winterspring and the Blackmaw Hold dungeon in Azshara.

Hyjal Summit opens with a battle against an ancient guardian. After that, your group chooses between several paths across the mountain, above and below ground, before the final encounters. The Legacy point needs all 13 bosses, so if the paths lead to different bosses, a guild going for it will have to take more than one.

All three raids are currently planned to reset weekly, and none of the 21 bosses has been fought outside Blizzard. The beta stopped at level 30. Wowdee's raid guides will add each boss's phases and loot once they're public, and the add-on's lockouts list shows which raids each of your characters is saved to.

Still to come

Not yet settled by our sources or tested in game:

  • Each boss's abilities, phases and loot.
  • Which of the 21 names belong to the four fights the designers described.
  • Whether Hyjal Summit's paths shut each other off, so that a full 13-boss clear takes more than one week.
  • Final spellings once the raids open on 9 December.
